2017-2018 Combined Plan Acceptances/Waitlists/Rejections

Hi guys,

I have been trying to find information on the Combined Plan program but all the threads are old or simply do not address some key issues. Hopefully there are people who are just as anxious to hear back as I am or just want to learn more about the program!

I submitted my application and CSS Profile on Feb. 12th. I did not receive an IDOC login so I faxed my parents’ income tax information to the Office of Fin. Aid directly. I am an international student and meet all the requirements for guaranteed acceptance. I go to a small LAC on Long Island and am one of the two students from my school who are guaranteed acceptance.

From what I have read so far, most people heard back between April 9th and April 18th in the past few years, so the anxiety is starting to build up!

Please post if you have submitted the 3/2 application and are waiting to hear back, are attending Columbia through 3/2, or are simply interested in learning more about it. I will update this as frequently as possible and if there are any questions, I’ll try my best to answer them!

Just checked my Financial Aid portal and all I see now is the “Home” tab. When I checked the portal earlier, there were 2 more tabs for “Documents” and “Messages.” Based on the thread last year, the people heard back just a couple days after this happened so I’m really hopeful that Friday is the day!

Got an email a few minutes ago from Combined Plan Undergrad Admissions saying that the decision will be up after 5pm on Friday!

Just been accepted and can’t wait. But there’s some weird line about mandatory summer courses for some students? It mentions that the required summer courses will be listed in your Academic Credentials form but I can’t find that… Anyone got any ideas?

I got waitlisted for the program. I wondered how much chance I will have to get off from the waitlist. Does anyone have any information about it?

I was waitlisted as well and would really love to hear from anyone who has been waitlisted for this program in the past, or anyone that has any info regarding the waitlist process. Muchas gracias

Got my acceptance on Friday as well! Waiting on financial aid though, I haven’t gotten an update on that. Still only have one tab up on the portal, compared to 4 tabs which should be there (Home, Awards, Documents, Messages). Also @ss97396 not to scare you but a guy who got waitlisted from my school last year ended up getting rejected. He applied this year and got in though, so I am not sure what changed since he wasn’t guaranteed this year either but was not waitlisted, just directly given acceptance.

You will receive an acceptance package which will tell you the courses you need to take over the summer (I think).

No all good! I really just want to get a feel of what my odds are so I can figure out if I should wait it out or just move on. Also thats interesting I didnt realize you could apply again for the program.

Is this for the 3+2 engineering program? I’m curious as to how the program works. For those who were waitlisted, did you need meet the requirements for guaranteed acceptance or is there no guaranteed acceptance? For those of you who are applying, approximately how many people in your school started the 3+2 program and how many are actually going on to engineering school? Thanks!

I was accepted Friday through guaranteed admission. I’m the only student form our school doing any 3/2 program this year. Usually about 10-20 come in saying they’re going to do it and only 1-2 actually follow though each year.

I’m waiting on financial aid as well.

@theawesomeguy do you think it’s because it’s hard to keep the required grades necessary for transfer? Also, I would love you know what kind of financial aid you receive. Thanks!

A 3.3 isn’t too hard. I finished up with a 3.8ish. The hard thing is fulfilling Columbia’s requirements AND my college’s requirements in 3 years.

Ah-I wondered why so few students actually go on to engineering. I know you haven’t receive your financial aid offer yet, but did your school give you some indication as to what you can expect? I’m asking because my nephew was accepted to three 3+2 programs but financial aid is absolutely necessary for him- his mom is a low-income single parent.

My school was clear about the fact that no promises can be made about financial aid at Columbia. I’m still super nervous because I desperately need aid and can only accept my offer if I get a good amount of it (unlikely as an international applicant though).

Saw I got admitted on Friday and am absolutely thrilled! I have also been admitted to Washington University in St. Louis for their similar combined engineering plan and am trying to decide between the two. Wash U, although not as good of a school, offered discounted tuition and already accepted me for my masters. I am leaning towards Columbia, but want to make sure I think everything through. Is anyone else in this situation?

@sparkswillow97 do you qualify for financial aid or was Washington U for merit? Did Columbia offer any need-based aid?

Hi @Emsmom1, no I didn’t qualify for need-based financial aid at either school. However, Wash U offers this really nice merit-based program where it discounts tuition by 40 percent your first year, 50% your second year and 60% your third year if you get admitted their combined plan masters program as well (like I did). That makes it worth considering even though Columbia is a much better school

Hi @theawesomeguy did you hear back regarding financial aid yet?

Question from an outsider:
Is the “minimum of a B” requirement only for the prerequisite coursework and major specific coursework?

In other words, if I have Bs and above in all of the listed courses under prerequisite coursework on the Columbia website, have about a 3.7 GPA overall, but receive less than a B (say a B- or C+) in an advanced Complex Analysis math course that is part of my major/degree requirements at my affiliate school but is NOT part of the Columbia requirements, does this exclude me from guaranteed admissions?
