2017 - 2018 USC Transfer

@Mastodon97 I don’t think you have to worry about it because the question was asking why you want to transfer and so talking about your school in relation to USC is only natural

@Mastodon97 at least you’re not like the guy who mentioned Ucla in his essay lol…

@ilovshibas yay! Another English major!

Haha right

@Pantafootball

Oh ok I’m a junior applicant and my cc gpa is a 3.73 but my usc one is a 3.71 so I’m not sure if they will ask me for one since I’m right on the average for acceptance but I did take classes during the winter and I got a 4.0 to show improvement from my fall since I had a hard time balancing everything and got a b in every class which made my gpa fall to a 3.7 @penntousc [-(

@dreamla what’s your major?

Snow day at Cornell!! First time in 24 years! :slight_smile:

Has anyone gotten an email from USC asking about missing materials? I got one yesterday and sorted it out with admissions…does this mean they’re beginning to review applications?

Does being able to get into the housing portal online mean anything?

It says: Admitted Freshmen and Transfers: Your information has already been uploaded into the housing system. To retrieve your housing password, type in your 10 digit USC ID number and click “Forgot Password”. The password will be sent to the email address on file with Admissions.

I put in my USC ID and they sent me a password but does that actually mean anything or is everyone able to do that?

@Mastodon97
In my opinion, it’s not a good thing that you did that. However, the most important thing for these schools is your GPA. Your essay carries a 20% significance (guesstimate), with your EC’s weighing in at 10%-20% (unless you did something extraordinary.). Talking down on another college shows immaturity, as an adult man/woman it is your job to take responsibility for your actions…including your mistakes. At the end of the day, nobody held a gun to your head and told you to go to that school, it was a choice. A good essay emphasizes why you would be a good fit for the new school and is clever enough to deflect negative comments, a bad essay talks about negative aspects of the old school and poor decision making. I don’t like to coddle people so thats my truth. Your essay might not hurt you, but I don’t think it will help you either.

@bugajskj I appreciate the honesty, but I wasn’t really talking my current college down though. I’m not saying how terrible it is. Not all universities are the same, they are all going to vary and I was pointing out how my current school is different from my realized needs. Its not like I’ve jumped from school to school, my current school was the first time in a university setting and i realized what was important for me to grow was lacking here.

@Mastodon97 It all depends on the delivery after all your writing is the only form of communication they are receiving.

Person A can say- “Through my experience at my current university, I have learned new qualities about myself. I believe … would be a great fit because… While I appreciate my current school, I believe that I can exceed expectations at …”

Person B can say- “I outgrew my current school, they are not meeting my needs and expectations. They are a commuter school and I think USC is better for me now…”

It all depends on how you actually answered the question. Some questions set you up to talk down on schools, but they want the people that stay positive…even thankful for their experiences even if they were not great.My 2 cents.

My first was communications and my second is poli sci haha I know annenberg is hard to get into but I’m hoping my ec’s and my essays help since if I get all a’s this semester I should be close to their average acceptance of a 3.76 @penntousc

@dreamla as long has you’ve got a good amount of GEs and the prerequisites for your major completed you should have a pretty good chance

@LindsayRB No, that does not mean anything. Everyone can do that - your information is loaded into the portal when you apply. I applied last year, and was rejected, but I was able to access the housing portal.

@bugajskj I’d say I did a combination of both Person A and Person B. I’m still not saying anything negative, I’m just highlighting the differences. I’m not saying “x is bad because of this” I’m saying “x is like this and USC is like this and this is why I want to go to USC”.

@Mastodon97 Why don’t you just copy/paste the essay? lol Seriously though after you explain it in more detail it does not sound as bad. When you generally say that you talk a certain kind of way about a school though it sounds worse.

Hi! I’m currently and a california cc hoping to transfer to usc next fall. I have submitted all required materials but I got an email from USC about missing materials. I just checked my portal and I guess what’s missing is my “High school transcript” but it also says that they’ve already received my “Final HS transcript w/ Grad Date”…is there a difference?

@austlara I would call them and ask. I was in a similar situation but got it figured out once I spoke to an admissions person who had access to my materials.
