So people are already hearing back?
@cornellaemplease some people in TTP are getting SGRs
Anyone here know if an Associate’s Degree would transfer to USC? my backup school is far too expensive for it to be worth attending, but I’ve taken all of the transferable courses at my community college, so the only option left would be to get an Associate’s Degree and hopefully that would transfer as a whole. This might not even be necessary because I could get in this year and my problems would be solved, but this wait is painful and I don’t have an established backup plan yet.
@penntousc but like what if USC is too expensive
@pianorite I’m pretty certain that I know what type of financial aid package I’d be receiving and if it’s where the calculator had it, give or take 5-10k, it’s more than worth it
@pianorite and my backup school is Temple University… a slightly above average business school in an ugly region of Philadelphia is not worth $20k+ out of pocket when I could go to USC this year, or apply again next year to USC as well as other schools
Does anyone know if Price School of Public Policy is a hard school to get accepted into?
@USCfan1 apparently its all the same for transfer students. Its just as hard to get into Marshall as it is to get into Price or Viterbi…etc. They don’t have separate acceptance rates for transfers as they do for freshmens.
Hello all! I am new to cc and applying to a few schools. I figure I might as well post my stats and would love some honest feedback, no matter how harsh. I do not want to have any regrets when applying to schools. So, I am applying to schools that I know are a big reach.
Objective
HS GPA 3.0 – poor, I know:( I explain why in personal statement
MI Community College – 3.84 ( not including Mid-Term report, which is a 4.0)
Large upward trend
Fall 2015 – 3.668 (A- in Introductory french 1, but A in Intermediate 1 and A in IM 2 on MD report)
Winter 2016 – 3.82 (A- in introductory french 2, but A later in Intermediate 1 and A in IM 2 on MD report)
Summer 2016 – 4.0
Fall 2016 – 4.0
Winter 2016 – 4.0 on mid-term report
I have All A’s except for 3 A- and a B- in Fall 2015 in honors comp-1
I received an A in english comp-2.
My course load is very rigorous. It is as hard as it gets for a CC. Several honors courses
A’s in honors micro, honors gov, intermediate french 1, statistics, macro, and several more. I will graduate with an Associate of Arts this semester with honors.
Personal Statement
I poured my heart into it. In hs, both my parents lost their jobs, my home was foreclosed, we relied on others for housing, my family went on food stamps, and I worked at McDonald’s to support my family. I explained how this resulted in my fascination for all things related to government and as a result, wanting to major in poli sci with the intention of becoming a lawyer. I also explained how a higher education will allow me to support my mom. I think it explains my life, motives, and why I am doing what I am doing. TBH very proud of it. Overall 9.5/10 IMO
LOR-- I have three. One from French, Econ, and head of honors program and experiential learning. I believe they are all excellent.
EC’s – I will only list college.
Work at McDonald’s for several hours a week
Elected president of leadership club.
VP of an academic club
Volunteer work with Dementia Patients
Very involved in my chabad. I’m very active in the Jewish Community
Leader of Jewish youth group
Research this summer at U of M–Ann Arbor
Again, I realize this is not a chance me thread, but would love to interact with all of you about the transfer process
MISC
Accepted to Umich in early February for Fall 2017 and Brandeis (need-aware) for Spring 2017, but chose to stay at my cc. I am tri-lingual
@Goingforclacking I think you’ll have as sure of a shot at getting in as there can be, assuming your courses will transfer. I’m not even going to point out anything specifically, looks like you’ve got everything nailed down. And USC won’t even consider your HS records when evaluating your application since you have 30+ credits, the only reason they’ll want to the your HS transcript is for proof that you’ve graduated. Good luck!
Good job @Goingforclacking
You’re an inspiration
What languages do you speak?
Say I end up getting a SGR, how soon am I supposed to submit my grades?
@mkj120 as soon as they’re released
I’m on TTP. I got a 4.0 my fall semester and just got an SGR request. I’m taking much harder classes this semester, but hopefully the overall GPA won’t fall below a 3.6. I don’t think I can maintain a 4.0 for second semester though. Curious, why do you think I got an SGR? What percentage of TTP transfers get an SGR?
@EnduranceArtist I’m TTP at a quarter system school so I got a winter grade request. If you’re TTP I’m assuming you’re a freshman, so maybe they asked for your spring grades because they only have one college semester to look at right now?
@penntousc ah I see. you’re so lucky that your EFC is $10K! mine is like $20k which is basically the same cost for my to attend my state school’s flagship university (University of Washington which is my backup) but like I have a strong feeling USC is gonna make me pay more than my EFC due to some factors
@pianorite oh no my EFC is lower than that, but none of the good schools in Pennsylvania offer decent financial aid, so that’s what I’d be expected to pay even after getting maximum aid. USC would be cheaper for me because of the financial aid that they offer to lower income students, so that’s why I’m hoping this works out!
Are you on quarter system or semester system? I am surprised they are sending SGR so early. If it is a true SGR it would specifically ask for your Spring Grades. Some people are confused with winter grades and spring grades. @EnduranceArtist
Does anyone know when TTP students will be receiving their acceptance letters? Sorry if you guys already covered this topic, I couldn’t find it in the forum.
@penntousc Oh I see. Well best of luck to you! I really hope USC financial aid works out for you
