@DirtyDonut the earliest TTP hear back is late march, early april. BUT keep in mind that while TTP on average hear back sooner, not all of them hear back early april so dont freak out about not hearing back until later when everyone else does. Being on TTP doesn’t guarantee hearing back sooner
I really do hope I find out about my decision soon, it would really help me plan what I’m doing this summer and housing
@cc2LAuniversity thank you! That’s so nice. My languages are English, French, and Hebrew.
@penntousc thank you so much! I believe all, but one class will transfer. Possibly all will transfer. USC is such a great school. It will be so surreal if offered admission.
@uscfan1 I am on a semester system and received a SPRING grades request.
What percentage of first year TTP transfers get a SGR?
@Goingforclacking I feel the same way about it! Never thought something like this would be possible, I just hope my academics in college so far are enough for admission because I don’t have nearly as full of a resume as you! Good luck!
@EnduranceArtist I’m not TTP but considering there is a minimum GPA requirement and one could easily fall below that requirement over the spring, I don’t think it’s anything out of the ordinary. If your full year averages out to that requirement (3.6?) you should have nothing to worry about!
@penntousc Yes, but then why doesn’t everyone on TTP receive a SGR? Again, I got a 4.0 my first semester, so I’m curious what would incentivize them to ask me for spring grades and not anyone with lower GPAs.
@EnduranceArtist I would email your USC counselor if I were you, if no one else here has been SGRed as a TTP your counselor would probably be the best person to ask!
@EnduranceArtist it could be because of the rigor of your first semester courses or the major you chose. As you said yourself, your spring semester courses are more difficult than your first semester courses. USC may want to see how you do in your harder courses. What major did you apply for and what courses are you taking?
@USCfan1 The courses I took for both semesters were all to fulfill USC core requirements, as USC wanted (i.e, they were GEs). My first semester schedule was definitely lighter with mostly 100 level courses, and my second semester is full of high 200s. I applied as a narrative studies major within Dornsife.
From what I understand, I can’t go wrong so long as my spring GPA doesn’t bring the cumulative below a 3.6 (which would have to be pretty significant given it’s mixed with the perfect 4.0 from Fall). I’m just annoyed that they can only asses the severity of the decrease rather than an improvement, as well as the fact that I have to wait about two more months to hear a decision.
@EnduranceArtist i would not worry if i were you. Getting a SGR isn’t necessarily a bad thing, they just need more information. Are you at a 4 year or a Community College?
@USCfan1 4 year.
@EnduranceArtist did you take the courses that are required for your major?
I wouldn’t say taking 100s is a light load, considering every freshman at every school in the country is expected to take 100s… which would be the reason there’s 100s, 200s, 300s, and 400s
@uscfan1 No. At the TTP meeting, they stressed that I take courses to satisfy core requirements. I also did not decide upon my major until after registering for spring classes.
@penntousc Well if that’s so, I would like to know what would condition someone to NOT receive a SGR.
@EnduranceArtist well in terms of TTP, I don’t really have an answer for you since I’m not one. But in all other cases the people who don’t receive SGRs are usually junior applicants who’ve got a 3.6 or higher with all major prereqs and all but 2 or 3 GE requirements completed. I agree that it’s odd that you received an SGR as a TTP, especially with a 4.0 fall semester, but I think you’ll get the best answer from your counselor. You’re also the first and only person I’ve seen so far get an SGR, so don’t count out the possibility that it could be a glitch or mistake.
@EnduranceArtist did you receive the SGR through portal? What does it say…?
@DirtyDonut Yes, I found the request in my you.USC portal under the “check application status” link.
The text reads: “We have requested your spring term grades. We mailed you specific instructions on how to submit your grades for expedited processing. We hope to receive the grades before June 30. We expect you will be notified of our final decision by mid-July.”
Under “Message History” is a PDF of the letter they mailed that details the request.
