@enduranceartist again I’m not talking about what getting a SGR means. I know what it is. I was answering your question about why you got an sgr instead of getting a decision right away
Hi everyone:
On my portal, they says:
We will be reviewing applications through the month of May, and we expect to be able to meet our commitment to notify transfers by June 1st.
Anyone receive this message also?
@LuNayyy everyone has that
@mellyjune Thank you
@EnduranceArtist I haven’t seen a TTP receive an SGR for any reason other than having a low or borderline GPA so it is pretty odd. Doubt anyone else on here has seen something like this either, so your best chance at getting an answer is probably just waiting to see what your counselor says.
@LuNayyy good luck!!! Wooooo
@penntousc past threads indicate that it’s not unheard of ttp getting sgr’s
It’s not that unheard of because most of these people are only applying with a semester worth of grades. A 4.0 doesn’t mean much if it’s not in courses that fulfill GE credit and/or count towards major. If they are taking a writing or math requirement this semester, they would ask for a SGR. Etc etc.
this is why its unrealistic for us to chance people because we have no idea what USC is looking for. Like what time of demographic, what spots they have open, etc
Being a TTP does not entitle you to hearing back fast or getting accepted right away. It definitely increases your chances of getting in, as most TTP get in, but it’s not a guarantee. You can’t ask why you got a SGR while others got accepted right away cuz each application and individual is an unique case
@mellyjune I understand why they would hold off on a decision if they wanted more non-academic related information, but given a SGRs concerns only academics, I fail to see how that would apply in my case.
@mellyjune yeah that’s the only other thing it could be, should have something to do with the more important requirements being completed in the Spring
Again, for all discussing SGRs: I took G.E/core classes that they told me to take at the meeting, got a 4.0, and they sent a SGR. I’d love to know the stats and conditions of those accepted without an SGR to try and determine what would prompt them to hold me off.
Not to mention, they can see the spring courses I’m taking on my Common App. They’re purely concerned on my performance in those classes, and I’m not sure why.
A SGR is strictly grades but it gives them more information about you as a whole. A SGR is them just wanting to have more information about you. It’s also a low key wait list type of thing so they can compare you with the rest of the applicant pool. People go from a 4.0 and drop all the time. Also people go from a lower GPA to a higher GPA all the time. In addition, if you are a freshman transfer with less than 30 credits, they also looked at your high school grades and other test scores. And maybe even though your college GPA was 4.0 if your high school ones were lower, it makes sense they would want to know more about you.
Maybe your essay didn’t stand out in the way they wanted but they didn’t want to reject you so they want grades to make sure your grades stay consistent so that then they can go ahead and accept you Etc etc etc. there’s a lot of different factors other than just grades. There’s really no way for us to know why someone gets a SGR while another gets accepted right away.
This kids temper tantrum is almost as funny as the guy that was rejected from Berkeley with a 4.0 last year lol. You can teach monkeys how to communicate and simple forms of mathematics…waving around a GPA is nothing. You don’t deserve anything because of your GPA…there is more to be considered. Obviously these people were more qualified than you. Put in your SGR suck it up and wait your turn.
@bugajskj I’m just curious for their reasoning. I would understand if SGRs were standard procedure, but given today’s other TTP acceptances, they don’t appear to be. The curiosity is mostly from the fact that I did everything they told me to do (given TTP is mostly about GPA).
I’ll contact my counselor to figure out what’s up. Regardless, thanks to everyone who helped explain things in the meantime
@EnduranceArtist The counselor is going to give you a generic response. They won’t tell you why someone else deserved to be accepted over you right now. Good luck though.
@EnduranceArtist as a TTP you have a better chance of getting in than most of us here… it’ll be ok
really wish I was a TTP hahaha :))
The wait is already almost half way over
GOOD LUCK TO EVERYONE
@bugajskj If they are good people (which - from my year-long relationship with them - they are) they should be of help
@mellyjune Haha thanks for the encouragement
Good luck to you!
What is the message that you guys see when you click on the check my financial aid status on you.usc?
@EnduranceArtist Hey man, take everything with a grain of salt from here. No body here is an admission officer of USC and is just a prospective transfer student just like yourself. Since you’re already on the TTP, my two cents would be that you’re in regardless if they spring grade requested you. I’m pretty sure 90% of TTP applicants get accepted. Good luck, I wouldn’t be worried if I was in your situation.
Is anyone gonna start a transfer acceptance thread for stats etc? Or has that already been created?
@IwcWombat if you have all financial aid materials in and your USC portal is up to date, it should say “application in review” and “Your financial aid application is currently in review. Please Note: We will notify you during the review process if additional documents are required. Financial Aid Summaries for transfer students will be released in early May.”
