2017 - 2018 USC Transfer

Apparently this is the place to ask so

How hard is it to transfer into Marshall?

What is the “easiest” school to transfer into?

@pomeranian4rich I am a viterbi applicant, but thank you for the advice on getting rid of GEs

Hey guys, USC requires transfers to take two GE’s at the university correct? I’m missing one course each in Category B,C and G. One of the courses in C can fufill the G requirement so I was gonna take it at USC if I’m admitted. My school is also offering a six week session; one of the classes listed can help me complete Category C. Should I take it or just take the remaining two GE courses for USC.

@bugsybun10 none are the easiest. They’re all hard. The more prerequisite classes for a certain major, the “easier” it is to transfer into that major.

@charmaine30 yes it will affect your admission decision. They will likely give you an sgr instead of a straight up acceptance because you are taking a very important prerequisite class, calculus 1, for your major. They will most likely need to see how well you perform in that class before making a final decision for you.

@Warrior106 letting USC know that you’re taking another GE may show that you’re using your time wisely and finishing up all or most GE in order to graduate on time. I for example finished all my GEs despite that I am required to take two more GE at USC once I transfer in. So it wouldn’t hurt to add one more GE in. It adds more rigor to your college courses if you can handle the load. I think they like to see students taking lots of units 16+ (4 or 5 classes) Take it with a pinch of salt.

Will having not completed managerial accounting result in an SGR for Marshall? It’s the only major related class I’m missing and I’m taking it right now.

@jonathaanv No, accounting is a recommended course unless you want to go to Levanthal. The main courses for Marshall are the writing and calc courses. Therefore, I don’t think you will get an SGR.

@jonathaanv @ovodrakeovo correct. Accounting is recommended not required. However having recommended classes completed will increase your chance of being admitted.

@pomeranian4rich The required classes to get into Marshall are English and Calc 1 right? That would make economics (macro/micro) and both accounting courses the only “recommended” courses or did I leave any out?

From what I read (please correct me if I’m wrong), if you wish to transfer to Leventhal once admitted to Marshall, you have to take two accounting classes at USC and get at least a B in both right? It’s been a while since I’ve reviewed all of this. Mid-terms are taking up all of my time at the moment.

@jonathaanv you have to take two accounting classes if you have not taken financial and managerial accounting at your college. If you did, they can waive it and take one accounting class instead of two.

Thanks:) But the problem is, even when I complete Calculus 1 I still haven’t taken Calculus 2 yet, which is also the major requirement. Does it mean that I will not be accepted?

@charmaine30 You still have a chance. The best you would get is Spring Admit if not Fall.

I kinda feel like decisions have come out faster this year than last year, but then again, the previous transfer thread was dead until like late April so I don’t know…

I’m constantly nervous because even though I know its still early (like we probably still have a month left (at least) until the next batch of decisions/SGRs start rolling out), but like it could literally come any day… I wish we had a more concrete date to count down to or something haha

Decisions aren’t going to come until like late April.

I am painfully aware of that

but more ttp have heard back with acceptances and sgr’s on this thread than last year, which is what i was saying. but last years thread had less posts until after late april passed so I’m also assuming thats because not as many people posted about whether they heard back

Calc 2 is a Marshall requirement?

@ovodrakeovo it depends on your school. For me, I only have to take calculus 1. That’s what my Usc advisor told me. Although, there are some other people that say they had to take both.

Is Calculus 1 and 2 required for econ major? Or are they just recommended?

@charmaine30 I just checked and it says both econs and calc 1 are the only courses required.
