Totally agree! A lot of people talk about the tuition but I’m honestly drawn to USC because of the amazing programs they provide and the Trojan network! @stahboy
@stahboy I wasn’t necessarily saying that it was a bad thing to transfer to USC, I was just wondering why, but thanks for your input
@dreamla thanks! I’ll check it out!
Wonder if anyone has got the transfer admission letter?
Mid April come soooner!
Maximum of 5k/yr for loans? I’m pretty sure after you’ve used the federal loans you can just get a bank loan or go private, that’s what I’ll be doing…
Did you get into USC after you submitted your grades?
Although your GPA is strong, having that W and not fulfilling GE’s will hurt your application. I’ve talked to an admissions counselor about this heavily. Your GPA is not everything. Good grades in GE classes and fulfilling the writing and math requirements and NOT dropping courses will give you the best admission chances.
What if I dropped one major class because of health problem? I have addressed my situation in the essays. Would it justify a bit for the W on my transcript (only one W)? I have finished all of my major classes and my major GPA is 3.9+, overall is 3.7+.
@ovodrakeovo thanks! I really hope I could get in to USC
I put International Relations as my alternative major, does it make it easier to get into USC?
@ejsutton2006 @hgw666 my sister had a 3.25 gpa transferred from sbcc, one W on her transcript, majoring in poly sci, /not a legacy or minority…and got in fall 2014 & now is doing her Masters there.
So you really never know
hey everyone! did you guys see that the common app allows us to edit our personal statements after the deadline? Well the transfer app was due Feb 1st and today is March 29th but I really want to edit.
How many people do you think have seen my statement or application by now? Do you suggest I make a stronger edit at this point or leave it be? I know I can make the statement much more refined.
@youngwiz you can update your personal statement but USC won’t even get that version. That option is available so that you can fix edits as most people apply to more than one school with different deadlines. Like for example, USC was due feb 1st and you see a typo or you don’t like it as much after you submit so when you apply another school x which has a later deadline you can submit a revised version which will only be sent to ONLY schools you haven’t yet applied to.
Once you submit, you can’t edit or change the submitted version of an essay through CommonApp unless you contact your admissions counselor and they say that its ok to resend them a revised essay
Also its kinda how a lot of times we are taking a test and we change our answers. Most of the time, your first answer will be the right one. So even if you could edit your essay, theres a high chance that your first essay is better especially because right now all of us are super anxious and its not the best to have that anxiety carry through into our essay. I wouldn’t recommend contacting your admissions counselor either since its late, and any revisions to your essay won’t really change anything anyway even if you could edit it.
I really wouldn’t worry about it! I’m sure your essay was really good! Its tough right now because all we can do is wait and second guess ourselves. I do it too, every day all the time… but the wait is almost over! Good luck! WOOOOOO
.
@youngwiz I think Usc downloads it from the common ap. So I don’t think they would go back in there since they already have your complete application so I don’t think it would matter at this point
Do any of you know how they review our transfer applications?
From my understanding, our regional counselors look first and if they approve the application, it goes to a second round of consideration and so on.
What do you guys know about that process?
@youngwiz well I personally don’t know much about it, but what I do know (this isn’t so much USC but just the admissions process in most schools, give or take a few details)
Your regional counselor will look at your application and then they sort of pitch you to a bigger panel of counselors. So they are essentially fighting for you to get accepted, like they are your gladiator hahaha
Obviously I oversimplified the process, but your regional counselor will be the first to see and read your application and from there they act as your spokesperson to the bigger panel of counselors. Obviously they can’t do this for every single applicant because then it would never end so the regional counselors are sort of used to weed down the applicant pool. Some applicants are easy decisions, like accept or deny, but then there are the borderline applicants that have lower grades or a special circumstance, etc. etc in which these panels are the deciding and really important factor which is why a lot of people try to get on the good side of their regional counselor and are scared to email them for fear they will annoy them hahaha
That being said, I know its tough waiting (like I’m about to lose it), but the admissions counselors don’t just read our applications and make a decision right then and there, they also answer e-mails, phone calls and other stuff to help us before and after we apply and they also have to meet with a panel to make admissions decisions (where they fight for us) and it takes a lot of time and effort so lets keep that in mind! AHHHHH I have to keep telling myself this hahaha but gaaaaaah waiting is rough…
Also guys sorry about my longgggg posts haha I try to shorten them but I try to give a lot of detail so that the post is clear and not confusing… and then I just get super wordy and carried away hahaha
I emailed by counselor asking why I was sent a SGR as a TTP applicant after having received a 4.0 first semester at a 4-year institution. He told me not to worry—there’s a chance I could still get a decision before the spring term is over.
Does anyone have any theories as to why they would send a SGR but then “change their minds”, so to speak, and accept me prior to the grades being available? Do you think I’m on a sort of waitlist?
There is no problem with a spring grade request. They just want more information. As long as your spring grades are fine then everything’s alright. I got a 3.93 GPA so I’ll probably get a spring grade request too. I’m not worried though cuz my grades should be good
lol I’m psychic. Generic response received.
