@IwcWombat As reported by my colleague: a GPA of 4.0, however he is in the process of completing Viterbi’s major requirements (i.e. Calc II, a lab based science, and WR2)
@ivctransferusc It is HIGHLY UNUSUAL that they heard back so early. Earliest non-TTP acceptance I’ve ever seen was April 13th last year…
But congrats to them! Wish I heard back that early too hahaha :)) I had mentioned this in an earlier post though that decisions seem to be coming faster this year (TTP didn’t hear back until early April last year, but some heard back at the same time as 1st years which never really happened before, at least not on previous years threads).
In addition, last year, the 2016 transfer people were saying the same thing - that people were starting hearing back a little faster than 2015 transfer people. Maybe its a trend and we, 2017 transfers are starting to hear back faster explaining your friend… but its still unusual… They are the only non-TTP that’s heard back that I’ve personally heard of (not that that means a whole lot though… haha)
I’m all for hearing back faster though hahaha
@penntousc I may be wrong, but, to my knowledge he took 3 units in the summer and 15 units in the fall.
@mellyjune @penntousc I thought he was messing around with me but when I saw his admission packet in hand, I was perplexed by such an early decision!
@ivctransferusc I am too, I think he’s a really special case especially since he’s not even a junior applicant but a sophomore transfer but I guess it really means that any of us can literally hear back any day now…
BRACE YOURSELVES
The majority still probably won’t start until late April but I guess I gotta start stalking my mailbox soon… Its nice to know its coming, but thats kinda torturous, the walk to the mailbox and back every day haha
I’d be lying if I said that I’m not going to be checking the mailbox everyday now… totally agree that this is just a very unique case but I guess you really never know…
@ivctransferusc There is no way?!!? Is he a transfer student? Because there is no way that they started already!
@itslife123 To my discussions with him in our previous classes, he submitted his application about a week before the deadline. Yes, he would qualify as a transfer student - sophomore standing. I am unsure of whether he is a legacy or knows someone in admission but I did see his physical copy of the admission packet.
IVC I hope it wasn’t some April Fools Prank, although its not April yet :’). I think im gonna start checking more often although its a lost cause. It would be so nice to hear back soon so I can figure out my situation about dropping my Linear Class LOL
@itslife123 not 100% sure about your situation but if you are planning to drop the class after you get accepted, keep in mind you’ll have to send in spring grades and if they see you dropped a course, they are still able to rescind your offer of admittance, just keep that in mind
Dropping a course after you get accepted or notifying them after you got accepted doesn’t necessarily make you ‘safe’ from being rejected by USC.
In a way, there is a benefit of telling them about dropping a course, because then you will be able to tell them why you did so instead of them just seeing an unexplained dropped course, but of course this is just my opinion
Also I’m not saying that you’ll automatically get rejected just because you dropped a course
@itslife123 No, not an April Fools Prank. Although, it makes me glad that the thread is just as confused on my colleague’s early decision on his admission to USC.
@mellyjune I think you make a great point! By letting them know ahead, I won’t have to worry about being rescinded after getting admitted (Altough im not sure I’ll even get a SGR and the class im taking is just additional). My rational was that I could explain after getting accepted then they might say its too little to late and ask me why I didn’t tell them. But thanks Melly!
@itslife123 you definitely could tell them after you get accepted, but my concern would be that you would get your offer rescinded before you get the chance to explain and then it would get more complicated having been accepted and then denied.
I can see why it can be a little meh to tell them right now because you have no idea what kind of impact that can have, but they would find out sooner or later because once you get accepted, you have to send in your spring grades so that they can make sure you kept your GPA up and can also give you credit for transferable classes.
They may not even care about the dropped course in your particular circumstance so theres also that because one dropped course isn’t going to make it or break it… Good luck whatever you decide to do!!
People who have one dropped course still get in all the time, so I wouldn’t worry tooooo much about it
@bugajskj amen bro, amen
When do decisions start rolling out? I wasn’t expecting to hear back from USC until late May, but I think you guys are talking about someone already receiving their decision? Also, April 13? Wot
@lexluther96 Decisions usually come after April 20th.
@lexluther96 the April 13th date I mentioned was the earliest outlier decision I saw on last year’s thread, but the majority usually don’t start coming until late april like around the 25thish…
But I mean if they come sooner, I welcome that with open arms hahaha
Thanks! @mellyjune. If anybody else lets me know what they would do in a situation like this I’d appreciate it.
I hope that it is a trend in receiving responses sooner and as a potential transfer I would like to get involved in pushing for transfers to get earlier decisions. I understand that USC has their reasons for their decision dates with the volume of applications, but with transfers you are typically dealing with the 20+ year old crowd that might not have the flexibility to move on a dime when notified at the end of may.
USC is continually working on become more transfer friendly and getting decisions in by the end of April like the UC’s would be ideal for everyone.
@itslife123 If you have 64+ units and not taking any required courses. I say it’s best to say you can drop the classes. I for example am taking extra classes for fun but if I were to withdraw from them I doubt they would rescind my acceptance because those classes weren’t required otherwise they would’ve sent me a sgr instead of an acceptance if my classes in spring were that important for my decision.
