2017 - 2018 USC Transfer

Hey guys, should I be worried if I’m TTP and still have not gotten an acceptance or SGR? I don’t know if it would make a difference for hearing back from USC, but I’m currently a freshman at a 4-year institution.

@golfgirl101 while TTP are the first to hear back, many of them don’t hear back until later around the time the rest of us do so don’t worry :slight_smile:

@bugajskj I feel like they are getting back to applicants faster each year so it is comforting… but yea a lot of people have always worried about tuition deposits and stuff like that - especially dorming expenses… Housing is a lot more difficult to get as transfers so most of us will have to figure out living arrangements and it is really difficult to do with later notice… yikes… but it does seem like people are hearing back faster so I really hope this is a trend and not a just a few exceptions…

Has anyone who attends SMC (Santa Monica College) heard back yet? There’s only one admissions officer who reads our applications, and I’m wondering if he has sent any decisions out. Thanks.

@pomeranian4rich The thing about SGR’s is, people who finished pre-reqs still get them for odd reason. And I have this feeling I’ll be getting one regardless, maybe Viterbi is more strict. And isn’t it possible for you to still get a SGR? Also @BigBoyGalaxy I don’t think one admissions officer reads our apps. Viterbi (Engineering) told me every viterbi app goes directly to that department.

@mellyjune Thanks! Yes, same! Do you know if they’re sent via email or if we have to check it for ourselves on the portal?

@lexluther96 it depends on where you live but most people who live in the US will get a packet in the mail if they are accepted and then the portal will update a few days later. The portal updates in like 1-3 after your packet gets sent out so there is a chance you will find out on the portal first.

You won’t get a decision notification by email regardless of admission or denial. However SGR’s come in both by email and portal update.

Also, acceptances get sent out via priority mail and rejections by registered mail. It doesn’t really apply to us since we don’t know when the decisions get sent out unlike first years. First years can kinda gauge whether or not they got accepted before they receive the actual packets especially those living in California because if they don’t get an acceptance package 1-2 days after they get sent out by USC they probably didn’t get in, but we don’t know any of that so it doesn’t really matter because you won’t know its coming, but just a fun fact haha

@BigBoyGalaxy I’m an SMC student and havent gotten anything

@mellyjune Ewwww that’s pretty awful lol. I prefer the email. But thanks for letting me know!!

All this speculation. And I’m probably going to hear back in 2070.

@itslife123 I don’t think I will get a sgr. I have finished all prereqs, GEs and have 68 units. I even email my admission counselor and she personally said I have everything completed and nothing else is expected from me

@pianorite my EFC is $27,493 and I have a $10,000 loan… its way too expensive. My parents are divorced and neither make enough money to cover the tuition. I hate this feeling because I worked so hard to get into USC ):

@DirtyDonut Did your decision come out already?

@DirtyDonut

Thats harsh, what other schools did you get into? At the end of the day, you can thrive anywhere though just keep that in mind. Get your bachelors, get a job, then you can work towards your masters at USC? Good luck either ways.

I know it feels like we won’t know in forever but we are almost there guys :slight_smile: Side question: is anyone on here a Semifinalist for the Jack Kent Cooke Undergraduate Transfer Scholarship?

@gatsby22 wow I didn’t even consider transfer scholarships (bc I didn’t think I’d have any chance competing against first years) and had never even heard of that one. What does that scholarship offer bc I don’t even recognize that name from USC’s scholarship page.

and @DirtyDonut aw I’m so sorry to hear that. Yeah my FAFSA EFC last time I checked was around $20k but there are some other factors that will likely cause USC to offer me a hefty loan or just increase my tuition… but I’m gonna try my best and appeal if that happens. You should definitely appeal, too! I’m surprised that even though your parents are divorced, USC gave you such an unreasonable financial aid package. Are both parents employed? Or have either of the parents remarried a spouse who makes a lot of money? That’s one potential reason that USC saw… Or do either one of your parents/step-parents have a large savings account? That could be another factor.

@gatsby22 I’m a JKCF semifinalist! Glad to see another one on this thread! I’m so nervous because we are supposed to hear back in mid-April.

@pianorite this scholarship isn’t one of USC’s, its a national scholarship for community college students. I know many people on this forum currently go to community college so I was wondering if anyone is in my boat. Those who are chosen as finalists receive $40,000 a year for up to three years of undergrad school and can apply for $50,000 a year for grad school as well- a pretty amazing opportunity. I’m waiting on the announcement of the finalists which adds to the nerves lol.

@hustlemuscle Oh my gosh congrats!! Im nervous too because I haven’t heard back. Hopefully we will hear soon :slight_smile:

@charmaine30 I’m not really sure, I applied to Marshall/:
