2017 - 2018 USC Transfer

Does USC release all schools starting April? I remember bio majors got their letters earlier than Annenberg. Which school was the first to send out admissions?

@IwcWombat @dreamla I believe they were TTP though, but I mean, TTP started hearing back a week earlier (at the same time as first years) than last year so I guess we never know

@march24 its not really by school, they just roll out, TTP usually hear first. The bio majors hearing before Annenburg wasn’t because they hear back first or later. (it would be nice if there was an order so we could anticipate but unfortunately not…)

In any case, good luck to us all! (as always hahaha)

@abbysolo Congrats! May I ask what kind of award it is? If it’s not a well known award, it may not be worth it to email them just because it’s won’t do much and just makes more stuff for them to do…

Thank you! Quite honestly I’m not sure, my professor emailed me about it the other day and asked if he had permission to nominate my paper but didn’t really include details about the award. All I know is that it’s an award as part of the university writing program and there are only a handful of winners. I am pretty proud of it and creative writing is my second choice major (business is my first) so it might help? But I don’t want to inconvenience them or add it if it’s nothing too significant. The award recipients aren’t listed online but I have a copy of the email I can forward to the counselor as proof.

@abbysolo it is something to be proud of!!!

It’s really up to you! The option to email is always open and since I don’t know much about the award, it’s hard to say much, but I would try to find out a little more about the award because when it comes to admissions, you really only want to send them REALLY pertinent/important information/updates that could really tip the scales. Otherwise, it just creates more work for them that isn’t the most welcome, especially since they have so much paperwork/emails to go through as it is… does that make sense?

Congrats again on your award!

@mellyjune I noticed that many annenberg applicants heard back about their second major first because annenberg takes longer reviewing their apps. this makes me anxious even more because I applied to usc solely for communications and annenberg but I still placed my second choice as poli sci. Does anyone know how easy it is to change majors once accepted? Everyone tells me its a breeze but I would like to know how it would be from lets say dornsife to annenberg

@jonathaanv lol most liberal arts students would be screwed. Only the wise get in = wolframalpha.

It sorta is by school, atleast for Viterbi that is. They ALWAYS hear back last :frowning:

@dreamla How does one hear back from their 2nd major first, isn’t second major only once you don’t get in your first choice, regardless of how long it takes to review apps

@itslife123 I’m not sure I’m just going off the thread from last year. Students were posting about how they got into their second choice or undeclared because annenberg (their first choice) was taking longer to review apps. I remember going to transfer day and had the annenberg dean specifically tell us not to put another major from annenberg as our second choice because it looks as though we only want to go to USC for annenberg and they won’t work around our decisions if we only give them one solid choice kinda thing.

Does anybody know when the cinema school starts send out decisions?

Hey, guys! I’ve been trying to keep up with the comments, but there’s a lot of comments and I might have missed some stuff.
I was wondering if there was anyone here who applied for either as Poli Sci or Philosophy, Politics, and Law major? I applied with PPL as my first choice and Poli Sci as my second choice. Does anyone know when Dorsife begins to send out decisions? I am really nervous. I would be transferring as a sophomore. I applied with all my English and math requirements fulfilled, and I got a 4.0. I also got three letters of recommendation, one of them was from a USC professor. I’m as nervous as all of you guys. It seems that USC becomes more competitive every year.

A spring grade request just appeared in my portal
Above the current msg / msg history box and below where it says mid July . Ugg

is that bad? why is it that they ask some students for spring grades ?

@5nonnegotiables wow that’s really early! first regular applicant with a sgr? I remember from last year that the first regular applicant got it around mid-april

@kimham It’s not necessarily bad. They just need more information before making a final decision. a 4.0gpa spring grade doesn’t guarantee an acceptance tho. I was rejected last year with a 4.0 sgr.

@pomeranian4rich He is transferring from a 4 year university… It seems USC always looks at 4 year universities first…but kind of weird because they say community college students have priority.

@ILRmaybe Do you know if they send out decisions to those at 4 year universities or just requests for spring grades. I am coming from a 4 year so now im all anxioussss.

See you guys in 2 weeks. No point in looking now.

@pomeranian4rich but ur rejection was because you didn’t have enough GEs done right?
