2017 - 2018 USC Transfer

@stressedtoimpress Marshall looks for those who have strong quantitative skills. The fact that you have two C’s for Calculus is not looking good. They look for reasons to admit an applicant. Because you have poor grades for calculus, they might have to justify their cause if they were to accept you. Perhaps you have extraordinary ECs or your essay spoke out and resonated with the admission committees. The best you can get is a spring admit if you haven’t heard back and it’s June - July. I remember seeing an applicant getting in with a C in calculus, but it’s a rarity.

@renkim357 sophomore applicants (if not rejected) are basically guaranteed to receive an SGR, and if that happens it’s almost 100% likely that they won’t receive their decision until at least the beginning of June… quite a few sophomore applicants didn’t receive a decision until July last year. I’m in the same boat, and I’m just hoping for an SGR before May, that way I’d have a shot at getting my application re-reviewed by the end of May/beginning of June (since my spring classes end the first week of May).

When you guys say Sophomores you guys mean those with like 30 units right? I applied with like 55-57 ish so im in the limbo between soph and junior

@itslife123 yeah, I’ll have 32

Within my acceptance, the “additional conditions of academic performance” says that I must “earn a GPA of 3.5 or higher in the spring courses you listed in your application, with no individual grade lower than C (2.0)”. Is this to say that this condition will only focus on my spring GPA and not my cumulative GPA? If so, I feel like that makes things harder, knowing that just straight B+s (3.3 GPA) could break that condition (especially since my spring courses are much more difficult for me).
Does anyone know how serious this condition is?

@penntousc Okay! Thank you so much. Are SGRs and rejections sent out around the same time? dreading opening up my mailbox to a flat letter rather than a bulky acceptance package hahah

@renkim357 pretty sure SGRs and rejections appear on the portal first

@penntousc really wish decisions came out earlier so i can settle on housing arrangements at my current university if USC doesn’t accept me

@renkim357 yeah it really makes things complicated, I originally had a backup school to transfer to but I decided that if I’m rejected I’m just going to stay at my CC because I don’t feel like placing deposits and making arrangements for a university I might not even go to

Hey guys, I got a letter in the mail today for acceptance! For the record, I’m on TTP, applied to Dornsife and attend SMC (Santa Monica College). I didn’t get a spring grade request, but the letter stated that I must maintain a GPA of 3.5 or higher for my spring classes and must not get a grade lower than a C. Otherwise, they said they can rescind the admission. Good luck everyone!

guys… my friend from got accepted today as a sophomore applicant with a 3.66 gpa. Hes not on TTP. Major was Economics in Dornsife.

has anyone from a quarter system uni been accepted yet?

@renkim357 I feel that as long as they give us a decision by the end of April its reasonable. Berkeley decisions and most high end UC’s come out at the end of April (April 28th) and Berkeley for certain does not release them any earlier. That gives us May/June to get things figured out. Freshmen will have priority in everything, I can live with having two months to arrange my living situation.

If I am rejected from Berkeley/USC and I have to settle for UC Santa Barbara…I won’t mind making a hut and living on the beach lol.

@Skepta maybe I should’ve apply to dornsife instead of Marshall so I could hear sooner… jk lmao! Perhaps dornsife are reviewing their apps early and others like Marshall are doing it later

@pomeranian4rich lol I put Econ as my 2nd choice so I’ve got my fingers crossed, but I’m almost certain my app will go through Marshall before Dornsife

What’s the relation with USC and SMC?

Hi everyone, I made a usc fall 2017 transfer stats & decisions threads for those who are admitted already. http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/university-southern-california/1978775-usc-fall-2017-transfer-students-stats-decisions-only-p1.html?new=1

Please post your decisions for others to see!
@BigBoyGalaxy @EnduranceArtist @Skepta (ask your friend to post on this thread if he/she wants to)

@IwcWombat I’m not sure if there’s a legitimate “relation” between the two, however, during my first visit to USC last September when I attended one of the Transfer Days (highly recommend going to anyone who is trying to transfer from out of state or at least far from LA!), the guy (I forget his name but he’s an older guy and one of the head advisors or something who reviews transfer apps) asked the crowd how many of us are from Santa Monica College. A lot of people raised their hands and he then said how USC receives most of its applicants from there. Likewise, I’m sure the transfer agreement between SMC and USC is pretty fluid as well.
