Does anyone know if its likely to get an SGR if you have less than 64 units complete at the end of this semester? I know junior standing is 64 units but i will have around 60 at the end of this semester. I know sophomores usually get SGR’s but I have submitted 3 semesters worth of grades since im going to be a junior even though im just short of being considered junior standing at SC. Thanks for any opinions/advice! Also I have around 46 or so units completed that have been turned in with my app but will have 60 at the end of the semester.
@swim0220 at that point it honestly depends on what courses you’re taking and which ones you have completed (like GE and core courses for your major)
@mellyjune i completed the major prereqs and most ge’s. I have a ge or two this semester but most have been done the past 3 semesters so it’s hard to tell haha 8-|
@Zerzavy Try to complete calc 2. I would rather shoot for a B and get a C than withdraw. Idk where you guys are at but power through it.
@zettasyntax hi so sorry bc i already asked this before and you answered, but did you say that financial aid packages come in the mail 5-7 days after admission packages? I was trying to find your post in this ever growing thread but gave up lol… I’m now anxiously awaiting my financial aid package to see if USC is feasible
@fightontom I got a Winter Grade request, I sent the grades in as soon as they were available. I’m also at a quarter system school. @pianorite If you still have the missing material message, how did you know if they received your transcript? or did you never find out and they sent you your admission decision?
@swim0220 i’m in the same position! i’ll have about 60 by the end of the semester but im not sure if i’ll be considered a sophomore or junior transfer at that point. i’m guessing they’ll probably put you into sophomore position just so they can squeeze some more tuition out of you, but ultimately you’ll prob have to discuss it with the usc counselor! (but i don’t have any experience with these things at all so idk if what i’m saying is right haha)
@swim0220, it probably will depend on the grades you received in your completed courses. In addition, it also will depend on the overall strength of your application whether or not you will receive a SGR. Although GPA is the most important factor in USC transfer admissions, other things come into play for students like you who are sort of borderline sophomore/junior applicant. I would say the stronger your application (like essay, extracurriculars, letters of rec, if submitted) and the higher your grades, the less likely you are the receive a SGR.
@swim0220 @Shuisazn
Also for USC to consider you a junior applicant, I believe you have to have ~60 transferable credits… so you may fall into a the sophomore applicant category (but don’t quote me on this… there is no way to know for sure what courses transfer until after you get accepted unless your current school and USC has an articulation agreement (not articulation history)
Any chance we’ll hear by April 30th like the UCs? I’m buzzing with excitement and anticipation :-c
@Panitaispretty I have a feeling we will.
@mellyjune @Shuisazn thank you guys for your opinions! Ya its a hard call but hopefully we will avoid SGRs so we can know quicker! haha I have a high GPA and took most all of the classes I needed to so hopefully I wont get an SGR but also I could be considered a sophomore and I know its common to get one as a sophomore.
@bugajskj I hope your psychic feelings turn out to be true again! Hahahah
@kamtea I just checked my “required documents” on the youSC portal and it doesn’t look like my winter quarter grades are in there… but tbh i can’t honestly recall if they ever were because I actually didn’t really check there often. I emailed my major’s admission office to ask if they received my final transcript earlier this morning before i checked my mailbox and youSC portal and saw my admission decision. So long story short, I really don’t know for sure if they received my grades but it’s definitely seeming like they did since I received a decision a little over a week later!
Oh wait, I was being dumb lol. I still “have” the missing material message because I was looking right at it in my admission decision page (which was formerly the “check application status” page) and there it displays both current messages (admission decision) and “message history” (the missing application material). Hope this helps!
@pianorite Your financial aid package should show up on your portal within 5-7 business days assuming you have no pending documents to turn in. Heck, maybe even 3 days
I find the financial aid office to work pretty fast. It’s asked me for missing documents and within 1-2 days, corrections were made and my summary updated. You should check your financial aid status in a few days and you should see a pop-up that says something like “Your financial aid summary is ready”. You’ll know when you see it

I’m really confused. How do we know if they received our documents? I have not been contacted for any more information so I’m assuming they received everything? Should I call them?
Financial aid seems to be taking their good ol’ time this year… I submitted a noncustodial parent waiver for the PROFILE application on 2/26, it said they received it later that week, yet it’s still under required documents
Anyone who’s on a quarter system (4-year U) and has not heard anything back? (not even a winter grades request)
Is receiving a notification and email from USC about “Missing USC Application Materials” (they need most recent transcripts of the community college I attended in the fall and the latest transcript of the community college I currently attend because I took an intersession class) a good sign? I remembered I applied last year, and I didn’t receive a SGR or any notification of any missing transcript/application materials. It was actually a troubling admission cycle last year, because I literally didn’t hear anything from USC up until the last day of May when I was rejected lol.
I honestly think this might be a good sign? I applied to NYU last year, and I had missing documents prior to knowing I got accepted and the admission office emailed me and sent me notifications to turn those documents in? Unfortunately, I couldn’t attend NYU, and took a gap year to reapply to USC and other schools. So, I am anxious about this, because I literally didn’t hear or get any notifications from USC last year. To be honest…it might be that my personal essays are significantly better this year than last year’s.
Is not hearing anything from USC so far necessarily a bad thing?
@chap97 my sister goes to Usc and she didn’t hear anything either till she got in in June. So I wouldn’t say it’s a bad thing
