@penntousc I believe the Noncustodial profile requirement will remain there. I submitted my waiver and documents back in February and it’s still there. I believe I read that they just don’t delete it, though that might be incorrect.
@ReallyDoubtful I hope that’s the case, because I’d hate to get in and then find out my financial aid package isn’t available because they rejected my waiver without notifying me…
For those dealing with non custodial parent messages, I submitted mine a good two or three times over again and it finally went away. It kept saying they still required it until my third time submitting it. It says I don’t have anything to turn in right now.
i’m starting to panic a little bit about applying to marshall and not being accepted… do you think i can email my counselor to change my intended major to something i’m more confident in? or is it too late and i should just accept my fate lol?
@strugglinginvain what do your stats look like? I’m a Marshall applicant too
@strugglinginvain First… take a deep breath and remember that this wait is normal and we are all in your shoes and having the same nerves and anxiety. Second, why would you switch your major this late in the game? Sorry if this comes off as rude, but that is just silly. Even if you end up going to another school under the same major, it’s better than being stuck at a “dream school” under a major that you might not even enjoy and have to spend thousands of dollars on.
Decisions are coming soon. Be patient.
@jonathaanv put it lightly @strugglinginvain if you can’t handle this little bit of pressure and are willing to change your major just so that you can get into this school…maybe you really don’t belong at Marshall. Business and pressure go hand in hand. In the grand scope of things, you can go to Cal, USC, hell…even cal state LA and still do great things. It’s about who you are and what you become…not the name of the school on your diploma (barring Yale, Princeton, etc.).
I am anxious, just like everyone else, but I’m not nervous or uncertain. If I don’t get into USC I will be fine, I know who I am and what I want to become. I am sure you are a smart person @strugglinginvain so get a grip, accepted or rejected you will be just fine. Don’t romanticize the thought of attending this school at the expense of your desired major. We are what makes these places great, not the other way around.
Hearing back already is an extremely abnormal case, don’t freak about not hearing back yet, we still have 2 months to go until June 1.
Many people will start hearing back at the end of the month, but again, don’t freak out if you don’t, it doesn’t mean anything other than the fact that you haven’t heard back yet
@bugajskj @jonathaanv @strugglinginvain while I totally disagree that USC’s name/reputation/what is has to offer doesn’t mean anything, I definitely agree that if you’re willing to bail on Marshall because you don’t think you can get in, you probably wouldn’t be able to handle it. If it’s just a matter of being stressed out while waiting for the decision, it’s nowhere near time to worry about that yet. No one has heard from Marshall outside of TTP applicants, and it is likely that no one will begin to hear back from Marshall until the end of April. The reality is, most people (at least those who aren’t rejected) will receive an SGR from Marshall, and will be waiting until June.
On the note that USC’s title doesn’t mean anything – coming from an out of state applicant, where the state schools are sh!t (as they are in a lot of states), the title means a lot. Now obviously graduating with a 2.5 will probably wipe away any benefit there is to graduating from USC specifically, but there are plenty of companies that literally recruit from USC. That isn’t saying that everyone, or even most people will be recruited, but you aren’t going to have the same opportunities graduating from a state school as you will graduating from USC. I’m pretty sure anyone on here that stands a chance at being admitted is a hard worker, otherwise they wouldn’t think twice about applying to USC. I’m biased, because I don’t like the UC system given all of the issues it is currently having (administratively, socially, etc.), but I think USC offers more and better opportunities than Cal and UCLA. Of course, these opportunities aren’t going to fall in the laps of anyone, but where you go to school definitely matters.
@penntousc You’re preaching to the choir as far as I go. USC’s name/reputation/connections is the biggest reason why I’m considering it (as with probably a lot of people apart of this thread and lurking everyday) and am willing to overlook its costs. This falls with all the other schools I applied to.
I think we (at least I) were just trying to make the point that at the end of the day, while name goes a long way, it’s not the be-all and end-all. A lot of people make the mistake of assuming that “oh hey if I’m at said school, I’m going to have internships out the wazoo because of name alone” when it’s not always the case as you said and get tunnel vision. Whether you go to UCLA, USC, or CSU LA, if you don’t network and sell yourself the right way, a USC diploma or whatever other dream school is the same as any other school.
@penntousc I fail to see where I said USC’s title does not mean anything?
I simply said who you are is the most important thing, not the name of the school on the diploma. People can accomplish whatever they want by attending any school. Your opinion on prestige and jobs after school is debatable.
With that being said, there is a reason why USC is my #1 choice (besides my distaste for UCLA) I feel that it is the right fit for me and where I want to go in life (living in so-cal for the rest of my life). However, if I don’t get in, it will sting…it will suck for a day or two, but I will be fine. However, I won’t for a second believe that someone who got into Marshall will do better than me in life/career just because they went to USC.
I like you though, you keep me sharp.
@bugajskj when you put it in the same sentence as a cal state and said the name on the diploma isn’t what matters, that’s just how I interpreted it. But like I said, in PA (where I live) everyone goes to state schools and parties for the first few years before they realized they’ve made the wrong choice and wasted their time in college… and I’m not saying I would do the same, I just think it’s a horrible environment to be in if you want to become very, very successful and the reputations of those schools certainly do not help lol. Just so you have an idea of what I might have to work with if I can’t make it to USC or another top 25-50 either this or next year, here’s a link for an article that shows the 50 schools (nationwide) with the most alcohol and drug related arrests. 6 of the top 20 are Pennsylvania State Schools, I believe at least 10-15 total are schools in PA lmao
Makes me wish I was a CA resident, there are so many good college options in Cali, including the state schools which are fallbacks for a lot of people.
@penntousc ahhh ok I see what your working with. Yeah putting a cal state next to USC was maybe a reach lol. Well hopefully we all get in and we can make something happen. If I get in I am looking to hit the ground running with however else wants to come with.
Does anyone know what USC’s policy is for rescinding transfer students? I’m a TTP applicant (haven’t been accepted or denied yet) in my third quarter at a UC. I have a 3.9 after my first two quarters. Should I try to get just as good of grades as I did the past two quarters, or do you think it’s okay to get slightly lower grades? In high school, I understand that you basically just have to get a B average to not get rescinded. Is this the case for transfers at USC, or are they more likely to rescind applicants who were accepted with all A’s and then started getting B’s? I’m assuming that since I’m a TTP applicant, I will have an admission decision before the end of my third quarter in mid July.
@bugajskj yeah that’s why I’m constantly on my toes, I wouldn’t be as worried if I had a good quality school to fall back on. But yeah I definitely agree with taking off the second I get admitted, because I’d prefer to start and run a business as opposed to working for someone else’s, but hey, wouldn’t we all lol
@UCtoUSC slightly lower won’t kill you but I wouldn’t purposely lay down if I were you, seems too risky for a school like USC
@penntousc Maybe I’ll see you in the entrepreneurship club? Btw I understand the CA resident thing. Without giving away my life story I moved to California 3 years ago living out of my car for 4 months until I got a job. 108 degree weather in the high desert, taking showers at the local $10 a month gym eating the local delicacy of del taco every tuesdays and Thursday to save money while maintaining a 3.7+ gpa just so that I can become a CA resident and go to a university here.
@bugajskj yeah I’ll probably try to get into that club if I’m admitted
Someone please tell me how you guys are going to pay for USC if you don’t get any scholarships or financial aid? I know a few doctors, lawyers, and engineers who went to USC and are in debt of half a million dollars, struggling to pay it all off. How will you guys manage to go to USC if you don’t get any financial help?
