2017 - 2018 USC Transfer

My expected family contribution is $27,400 and I have a $10,000 loan :confused: my parents don’t even make enough money

@DirtyDonut your EFC is $27,400 and your mom makes less than that in a year? I don’t even see how that’s possible… if your mom made less than that your EFC would be 0, and that’s basically a fact…

@DirtyDonut you can always appeal your package though. If your high EFC is due to what your father makes, definitely appeal and see how much more they’re willing to give you. Unfortunately though, the EFC is the ultimate guideline and if that’s what they feel you’re able to pay, you may be stuck.

@DirtyDonut when you say EFC are you talking about FAFSA? Cause the EFC is from the FAFSA. If $27,400 is what USC is having you pay, then that’s their COA (cost of attendance) that they offered you based off the info you provided in the FAFSA and CSS Profile. Keep in mind that USC, like most private schools, uses the CSS Profile, which “digs deeper” than the FAFSA so it can find many ways of having you either pay more or less depending on your financial situation. But also USC has been known to be more stingy in their financial aid (mainly towards middle-class families) compared to schools like Rice, Northwestern, or any of the Ivys and charge people more/way more than their FAFSA EFC… i.e. my FAFSA EFC is something in the low $20k range but I’m anxiously anticipating that USC will probably find a way to bring my COA to $30k :confused: but yeah I suggest you take @penntousc 's advice and definitely appeal… I know I definitely will if I end up being in your shoes having made it this far.

@DirtyDonut wait also, if your FAFSA EFC is actually $27.4k, and your mom makes less than that, that must mean that your high EFC is mainly due to your father’s income. Even then, though, he must be making a lot more money (naturally, he has to if he’s supporting four other kids) if the FAFSA is considering 5 kids that share the same father and still deeming your contribution to be $27.4k.

Had to make a new account wth college confidential??? lol but on a side note I was accepted into UCSB! would have definitely jumped on the opportunity if I were still a senior in high school but now USC or Noting !!! lol

@DirtyDonut and wow thats crazy!!! my dad has an average annual income which around the 40-50k mark and my EFC from the calculator is 16K you definitely should appeal that.

@pantafootball2 Does that include room and board?

@pantafootball2 wait what happened to your old account? Bc my old account @scriavel like glitched out or something and became totally unusable so that’s why I’m on this one now :confused:

Accepted to Marshall !!! I can’t believe it omg I am freaking out!

Jk :frowning:

@usctransferivc had my heart racing for a sec lmao

@pomeranian4rich

@pomeranian4rich lol I had to at least feel what if would feel like if I were accepted for just a moment… just incase I get rejected lol

So is may 5th the magic date or have people already been admitted?

@usctransferivc hahah I get you, I really want to type out those words but right now I obviously can’t hahah

Well, one user on the forum (not TTP) @pianorite (CONGRATS AGAIN, seriously living vicariously through you, also good luck with your finaid package!) has already been accepted and there have been at least 2 other non-ttp that we have heard of getting in but they were reported by other people (friends of those who got in) so not too many so far, but this is more than previous years forums, though thats not super reliable because some people get in, get SGRs or don’t get in and don’t post on here
Several TTP have either gotten in or gotten SGRs too (a lot more people than last year,) People have just started hearing back faster this year, so thats good :slight_smile:

I don’t know about May 5th though, did a lot of people get in on may 5th last year? But I will say, it looks like decisions are coming out earlier this year but there’s no way to know if they will keep coming at the same speed that they’ve started (I really hope they do though…!!!)

@usctransferivc that is so cruel

@usctransferivc @penntousc hahaha I’m at school right now and i legit wanted to run to my mailbox just to check mine hahahaha (I live 30 minutes away from school by car, and I was ready to RUN) haha

I honestly think we shouldn’t worry about hearing back anytime soon until mid/late-April.

Hey guys, good news! So I just got an email from USC housing, and even though I haven’t submitted my enrollment commitment deposit bc awaiting FA package, they say that all admitted students can and should apply for housing ASAP. This is because roommate assignments begin in May. The important part of this email told me that this year that “we are happy to be able to offer housing specific for incoming transfers” and how they’re on a first come first serve basis at a few of the on-campus living spaces! Good luck to everyone!

For applicants who go to schools on a quarter system-- got a WGR this morning!
