2017 - 2018 USC Transfer

@itslife123 yeah with room and board

@pianorite yeah it totally glitched out. I would sign in onto any device and it wouldn’t let me load anything. I had to look at the all the forums without logging in.

@InfiniteHH98 hmmmm. I think if you’re on a quarter system you are suppose to submit both fall and winter quarter otherwise your application is “missing documents”. I remember applicants on quarter system last year having to submit a SGR after submitting fall and winter… WGR is the first I ever heard of lol

@pantafootball2 wow that’s exactly what happened to my old account… it’s still like that. I even tried contacting college confidential about it but no response lol.

Wait what did it say for a winter grade request??

Hey all.

I’m hoping to transfer to USC Marshall fall 2018. The only problem is according to my class plan by next Spring I will be taking calc 1. The only way I can take calc 2 is if I take it in the summer before transfer. Marshall is suuuper competitive, I know. So is there any way I could get by with just calc 1? Academics wise, I had a huge grade change. From academically dismissed to coming back with 4.0’s (3.5 cum.) I also believe I will have a good essay. I know it’s sooo early to be thinking about this, but I need to set aside the application money asap if I’m going to apply. If my application wont even be considered because of a missing class, I don’t want to apply.

And before you ask, no. I cannot stay another year at CC.

Thanks in advance-

@wallyw3st it’s definitely not too early to start thinking about it, I started planning for this as a senior in HS last April as well. However, if you are required to complete calc 1 and calc 2 in order to satisfy Marshall’s math requirement, then there is a pretty good chance you would be rejected if it’s not completed. The calc requirement is probably the most important requirement when trying to get into Marshall, and they will not accept classes that you’re taking in the summer following your application. You would need to have calc 2 completed by next spring in order to have a chance at being accepted, so I would recommend taking a math class this summer in order to speed up the process, so that you can have calc 2 completed by next spring.

However, not everyone needs calc 1 and 2 to satisfy Marshall’s math requirement. The calc 1 class at my CC is listed as equivalent to USC’s calc 1 class on the articulation agreement, so I only needed calc 1. But I know that for a lot of CCC’s, calc 1 and 2 are both required, so that all depends on your school. Good luck!

@wallyw3st you could also take the business calculus route if your school has it. You’ll only need that one calc class and it would be enough to satisfy Marshall requirement. It all depends on your school and the articulation agreement With Usc.

@pantafootball2 I just looked up the articulation agreement and my school does have business calc! And I will be able to have it complete by the Spring.

@penntousc thank you for your insight as well, luckily my college has the business calc class I can take!

One more question, I didn’t even realize USC does not look at grade replacement the same way as UC’s. I have two classes I did academic renewal for and 6 classes I retook (I know, yikes) all for A’s. Will they count the D’s and F’s into my GPA or average them to B’s and C’s?

So I am on a quarter system and my winter quarter grades are now available. Am I supposed to send them now? Or wait till and send only if I get an SGR? In that case I would have to wait until spring quarter is over too which is June 27th for me sigh

@wallyw3st sadly, yes they will consider it in your overall gpa despite retaking classes … but correct me if I’m wrong @penntousc don’t they have a policy that the first grade is the only one considered or do they allow both grades in the gpa let’s say ( F first attempt and A second attempt)?

Hey guys I’m curious about the cal grants! As of now I’m receiving cal grant B which is for California community college level but does anyone know if our EFC from net price calculator includes the grant A which is the grant for students who transfer out of CCC within 2 years? And is it true that it becomes ineffective if you spend 3 years at CC? This just made me reconsider any thought of going to cc again if I don’t get into USC since the grant is worth around 8-10k ! :-SS

Ive gotten into another school and the enrollment deposit is due before we hear back from USC! Its non-refundable so I am not quite sure what to do. Any suggestions?

@brixnx you can’t really do anything other than lose that money if you do end up getting accepted into USC.

anyone here on the quarter system?

@pantafootball2 @wallyw3st I don’t know for sure about that policy, but based on the way USC reviews everything else, I would think that while they’ll consider the first grade you received in a class, they’d be happy to see a big improvement. Not sure how they would feel about a major requirement (ex: calc) being retaken because of a poor first grade, but for GEs or classes of lesser importance, I wouldn’t worry too much. Yes, they’ll be factored into your GPA, but USC emphasizes on progression and improvement. As long as your grades show a clear upward trend, you shouldn’t have too much to worry about.

@brixnx I would say unless that school is a STRONG #2 and is your desired fall-back if USC doesn’t work out, I wouldn’t worry about it. If it is, the worst thing that can happen, money aside, is that you don’t get into USC and you missed out on your chance to secure a spot at another school.

Always have a back-up plan no matter what though.

@penntousc @pantafootball2 unfortunately one of the classes was accounting, a major class. But the others were either non transferable or GE’s. Well I guess I will be applying next year anyway, doesn’t hurt to try. I’ve improved a lot so I hope they can look past my past! Thank you both for your help

How many units will I need to complete in my first year of college for them to not give importance to my high school grades?
