@zettasyntax Thank you for your advice. I’ve sent an email to my regional counselor. Hopefully, I will hear back from her soon.
@zettasyntax I went to a transfer information session at usc and asked if their admission statistics includes spring admits and they said it did. There were speculation that your financial aid could determine whether you get fall or spring admit. One person I know had a 3.8gpa, finished GE, major prereqs, had 4 Letter of recs, involved with school/ec, but was taking a writing requirement in spring. She got spring admit in june.
@zettasyntax All of that information is very helpful. Thank you.
@pomeranian4rich I don’t really know what to believe then, haha. I know a girl who had a 4.0 and applied for political science. She did everything “right” - all GEs, completed all pre-reqs that would transfer over (which I only think was 2 or 3 courses heh), no pending requirements in spring - and she still was offered spring admission. If they don’t take into account GPA in determining who gets spring admission, then it’s likely fair to say it’s random and that you and pretty much anybody here could get selected for spring :-/ That’s no fun
@arteest1 I know, but why would they need them twice?
@Panitaispretty Something weird happened to me. When I applied in 2014, I sent them my HS transcripts, my GED, etc. I even sent multiple copies. The next year, they suddenly don’t have it anymore and I have to send everything again? Stuff like that makes it hard for me to trust the job that admissions/the counselors are doing, but they’re generally okay lol
@pomeranian4rich I don’t really know the science behind it but I imagine it’s by dept. Some dept’s can only accommodate so many transfers in one semester otherwise it will flood classes and waste time on both sides
@lexluther96 I didn’t have Quantum Mechanics and I only had 1 GE finished (according to their list, I went with UC guidelines too) and I still got accepted (Viterbi)
@Irishrider Yay! I’m applying to a non-impacted major and I have a 3.93…Hooopefully! I was never planning on applying to schools other than the UCs, but an advisor encouraged me to last semester, so I just went for it! I know I didn’t satisfy all of the reqs at UMich, but I still got in! I’m just worried because USC has an articulation agreement.
Oh well. Here’s hoping! Thanks for letting me know!
Does anyone else hate that the “Withdraw application” option is right below the “Submit documents” option? I just accidentally clicked on withdraw and I had a heart attack and closed the page so fast…
So my spring term ends June 15th, so could USC still potentially ask me for an SGR? They already asked for my winter grades.
@SportsNerd24 did you already submit your winter grades? Or will this be the first time?
Should I be concerned that USC hasn’t asked for additional academic documents?
I applied for Econ cuz it is easier. I heard some of my friends transferred to bus econ after getting in so yah
@coprice No, you shouldn’t be worried. Lots of people haven’t received anything yet and that’s completely normal. Good luck!
@zettasyntax if admitted, do you know how easy it is to switch form dornsife to viterbi?
@Skepta It definitely shouldn’t be bad at all, however, if you aren’t applying to Viterbi as your first choice major I question why you would try to switch to Viterbi. Because while doing Calc 1 and 2 shoudln’t be too bad, doing Math, Physics, Engineering classes all at the same time is on a whole nother level.
Also when people hear that Viterbi students get in with little to no GE’s don’t let that deceive you into thinking that you’ll be fine, because Marshall and Dornsife definitely cares about those GE’s.
Hey guys I’m usually a lurker on this thread but I have a quick question. This is my second semester in CC and I applied to transfer into Viterbi for Fall 2017. However I’m scared that I won’t get an A in my calc 3 class, which is a major prep course. While a B is technically above average, after looking at everyone with 4.0 GPAs, I’m kind of scared that a B will kill my chances. Do you guys think a W would be better?
@inglebert DEFINITELY NOT… sooooooo many people drop their classes because they’re afraid of a B or a C and they end of getting rejected because USC hates to see W’s if it’s simply because of difficulty in the class… W’s are viewed as quitting (because that’s exactly what it is, unless there are underlying reasons). There’s nothing wrong with having a B in calc 3 especially if you had As in 1 and 2, so just stick with it. You can’t win em all, and USC knows that. Plus, 4.0 applicants get rejected every year, because GPA (while very important) isn’t everything. Good luck!
