Hi Y’all, I just checked my portal and found that something appeared on Required document. It was College transcript, and I am not sure why they ask me to submit college transcript again cause I submitted before the application deadline. OR, does it mean SGR? I have no idea lol
viterbi cs applicant here!
anyone hear back yet
Hey guys for the fafsa shouldn’t we primarily be looking at the tuition price and compare that to how much we are rewarded? Since everything else is purely off estimates from Usc concerning transportation costs… room and board… and that is definitely dependent on each student and how much they’ll spend on those things.
@nalabearz4 it sounds like there was likely a mistake in your financial aid summary or any of the materials you submitted (i.e. the FAFSA or CSS/Profile). I’m hoping USC made a mistake with financial aid summaries though because it seems like you and I are in very similar situations. My FAFSA EFC is also around $21k so I expected USC to lower my cost of attendance to maybe $26k-$30k but they offered me $34k in grants --> my cost of attendance is $38k before loans/work study… I’m going to appeal/negotiate because I’m not trying to drain my parents’ savings lol…
Dornsife - international relations!
I’m a potential transfer for Marshall. As a junior, I have roughly 110 quarter units transferring in from CSULA with a 3.9 GPA. As a serious applicant, I took a year off school to try and transfer into Marshall. The reason for this was that I met all of USC’s requirements except a couple courses from the core literacies. If I took any other classes they would likely not transfer over due to me capping out at the maximum transferrable units. Through this lapse I worked full time and interned as well. Long story short, I thought I had submitted all necessary information but USC emailed that they wanted an explanation of what I did when I did not attend school. I had already submitted a letter on the common application under additional information explaining my unique circumstances but I guess they did not review it. I called USC and resubmitted it to you.usc portal but they haven’t removed it yet from the admission status. Has anyone experienced any of this? Someone mentioned here that USC may start releasing transfer decisions the week of April 24th which is consistent because that’s when they usually start to do so if you look at the transfer forum history. If we’re lucky they someone of us might get it the week, however, the majority will receive them in May! Good luck to you all!
Does anyone know if and how much admissions takes into account academic rigor of each school? Say a 4 year university compared to a junior college
Hi.
I applied as Linguistics major and want to know if retaking courses gives disadvantages to the decision.
I’ve heard that they average the first taken course and retaken course…is it really true?
Is there anyone who knows someone accepted with retaking some courses?
I took courses based on igetc so dont know if I completed Ge for USC or not :((
@TransfertoUCLA yes it is true. They take all courses you’ve retaken into account. USC and igetc GE are really similar. I only followed USC ge and to my surprise, I finished all the igetc GEs
@MartyM It’s pretty hard to say when USC seems to take on so many students from California community colleges, but I would at least think that people coming from a 4 year are more used to a rigorous environment. I feel like CCs sometimes have students that are slackers and don’t really try all that much, so the exceptional students (like those trying to transfer) really stand out. When you get to university/a 4 year, there are more exceptional students - so it is harder for those CC students to stand out when the slackers have mostly been weeded out. I sure thought the transition was a bit of a shock. I do believe that 4 year students are better prepared, but I don’t believe USC necessarily considers this fact and purely determines rigor based on the courses you’ve taken.
@TransfertoUCLA Hey, I’m part of the linguistics program - the newer computational linguistics major. The department is pretty small, but for that reason, I think it’s great because you really get to know some of the professors. Anyway, it is true that USC doesn’t honor grade forgiveness if you are re-taking a class; they consider both grades when calculating your GPA. There is some overlap between IGETC and USC’s GE pattern, but there are certainly some differences. If you take a look at their articulation agreement, you might have fulfilled several categories.
Anyone here thinking about being a CS (games) major? There are so many required classes, I’m worried about not being able to complete it all in 2 years
@MartyM I know multiple people from 4 year universities who transferred as sophomores and juniors to USC with a GPA around a 3.0, but their 4 year universities were on similar academic levels as USC.
@delzzz321 that’s good to hear actually. I’m in that situation with a pretty low GPA.
@stahboy feel that! What school are you currently at?
I’m currently at the University of Washington with a GPA of 3.67
@delzzz321 Cornell University in Ithaca NY
@stahboy Hahahaha considering that is a better school than USC I think you’re totally fine
@stahboy OMG. Cornell?! That’s amazing!!! Congrats on that accomplishment! In my dreams…lol
@millaportman thanks, but I’m thinking about transferring. Still a big decision tho
