@penntousc B/B+ are fine, but A’s are better. If you have all A’s for your GE classes then that will make up for the calculus. remember they focus on how many classes you’ve completed. Despite having all A’s in my major prereq like english and math, I was still rejected because of the lack of completed GE classes. An A or B in math indicates strong analytical skill, so dont worry too much.
What do you guys think about putting high school extra curricular son my application? (Sophomore transfer)
@masonn8 On my application, I’m putting down the ones that I was really involved in at High School and has to do with my major. But again, It says on the USC transfer page that it is really mainly about Academics and how far you are in your Major/GE in terms of courses. It is really up to you though. If you think it is going to strengthen your chance of getting in, I say go for it!
@zettasyntax What does USC consider a junior transfer? 64 units? I thought it was 60, also who ever answers, can you link your source.
Thank you
if i were to get a D in a class and not withdraw from it but re take it next semester and maybe get an A in it, would i even have a chance in getting accepted? especially as a sophomore applicant? not to mention i already have a W in first semester. is it worth to apply?
I’m a freshman at a Massachusetts CC with a mediocre high school gpa (~3.1; top 25 percent) and a 2210 SAT score. This fall, I’m looking at a probable 4.0. Although this is my first year, I’ll have enough credits, due to APs, to graduate next semester with my associate’s in Math, having taken Calc I (high school), Calc II (now), Calc III (next sem), & Differential Equations (next sem), as well as Physics I: Mechanics(next sem) and Chemistry (next sem). All in all, I’ll have 39 transferable credits for them to look at by the end of this semester. Does that mean they’ll focus mainly on my 4.0, or do the 20 AP credits not count towards the classes they’re focusing on? If it matters, I think I’ll have about three-fourths of the GE’s complete by the end of this year. I’m looking to get into Arts and Sciences for Physics.
Hi guys. I have been planning to transfer to USC for a while now, but I’m wondering if it’s worth it to continue at this point? I’ll try to sum my application as succinctly as possible, but it is very complicated. Any guidance, realism or reassurance, would be great.
I’m an Econ major, will have ~65 credits by the end of the spring semester, have a 3.67 gpa. I’m going to complete my 5 remaining general requirements in the spring, fulfilling most or all prereqs. I was the treasurer of the gay straight alliance, Vice President of my residence hall association, and have done research assisting for two professors. One that I currently work with is writing a letter of recommendation. I’m a first generation college student and am paying for college with loans and by working full time.
My high school gpa is horrible because I lived in a dysfunctional family. My older sister dealt with addiction and mental disorders, and made life very difficult for me and my other sibling as children. She passed away in the middle of this semester, a couple of months ago. As a result, I’ve dropped one of my four courses (a calculus 2 class) due to stress. I expect to do well in my remaining three classes as I continue to work full time between two jobs.
If I were to do well in my classes this semester and have a stellar mid-semester grade report in the spring, keeping my gpa close to 3.7, would that be enough to offset the W I chose to receive in calculus 2 this semester? Or do you think receiving a W the in semester before transferring has ruined my chances? I feel as though I am persevering despite my horrible situation and work load.
Again, sorry for the long text. I appreciate any guidance/feedback given!
@mkj120 If you explain your situation, I think you have a solid chance of admission as you’re right around their 3.7 goal and seem otherwise qualified. Furthermore, Calculus II doesn’t seem that necessary for an Econ major, but you should probably try to take it in the spring if it’s recommended.
So to apply as a transfer to USC, do we still need to submit our official high school transcript even if we’re at a sophomore standing?
@smileesarefree yes it’s required but if you will have completed 30 transferable credits prior to transferring, your high school grades and test scores won’t be considered in your evaluation
Hey everyone! Currently I am a Sophomore hoping to transfer as a Junior. I didn’t really realize I wanted to go to USC until this past August so I’m not sure if I have my GE’s fulfilled or what classes will even transfer (I say I’m not sure because I go to an oos 4 year school with no articulation agreement). Luckily I have completed the requirements for my major. I am working on taking more GE’s next semester, but I’m worried that this will look bad. Any advice?
@penntousc thanks for the information! In addition to this, we complete and submit the Secondary School Final Report and the Mid-term Report provided on commonapp, as well?
@smileesarefree I’m not sure about that, haven’t started working on my app yet, sorry
@smileesarefree hi you do not need to submit that. USC will ask you for a sgr(spring grade request) later if they need it around late april to may. Only submit your transcript which includes your fall semester by Feb. 1st. hope that helps. I was an applicant last year.
@pomeranian4rich what if you have winter semester and it ends at the beginning of February too. I want USC to see my calculus class done haha
So transcripts are literally due feb 1st?!
@Pantafootball I’d recommend sending fall as soon as those are done and then sending winter as soon as those are done. Or you could email and ask them what to do.
@Pantafootball You do not need to submit your transcript on Februrary the 1st, but You need to submit the the common application.I am also taking winter classes which all my GE will be completed and will submit it somewhere after Februrary 1st. USC do not look at applications until April because they will have finished looking at first year applicants and will move on to transfer applicants. hope that helps.
@pomeranian4rich do you remember on the last thread when they said that on campus housing filled up? I thought they had said late May, which I guess makes it real tough for transfers to get housing since almost everyone’s semesters don’t end until may or June (I’m May). It’s early to be talking about that but I’m on the opposite side of a country so if I were to be accepted I could have a nightmare of a time getting off campus housing, if needed.
I am applying to USC as a transfer student using the common application. I do not see a section to post grades. Do I send grades only with official transcripts? And the deadline is February 1?
