2017 - 2018 USC Transfer

@Neurological Okay, thank you!

if I ace everything next semester, I’ll be applying with a cumulative 3.49 gpa (don’t remind me, i know it’s garbage.) can someone pls prevent me from falling asleep while curled in the fetal position on tear-soaked bedsheets and tell me of any transfer success stories from people with similarly shitty gpas? I’m from a ccc, will have major prep done by end of spring, will get a few letters of rec from professors (hopefully highlighting my upward trend in grades,) and have decent ec’s btw

@rebounded you might want to talk to @awalksonman who got in with a 3.4

anyone trying to transfer as a sophomore without TTP? do you guys know if it is possible? i think i will have over 30 units by the end of spring 2017.

pretty sure it’s possible. i know many people who have transferred after only 2 semesters. just make sure you have your major prep courses completed

Do you guys think it hurts my chances of getting in as a sophomore if I am currently going to another 4-year university?

it’s easier to get in as a community college student, but it’s still possible for 4-years to get in. it happens all the time

Hi, does anyone know if I have to complete one course in Category G - Citizenship in Diverse World and Category H- Traditions and Historical Foundations if I am trying to transfer as a sophomore? Also, do I have to fully complete my major prereqs? By spring 2017, I’ll be done with Math 1D (the last course in the calculus sequence at my school), Chem 1C (last course of general chemistry sequence), and Physics 4A (General Physics, calc based). I’ll be missing differential calculus, organic chemistry, and the rest of the physics sequence.

it’s not a requirement to fully complete the major prereqs, but your admittance chances will be greatly increased with them

Hi all, I’m applying this fall, and hopefully enough credits transfer so that I go in as a junior, if admitted. I was talking to a professor at USC and they mentioned that their offices keep track of who attends their campus tours. I’m not sure if this will affect our applications in anyway, but after hearing that I’m sure going to sign up for one.

CC student transferring after 3 years
GPA: 3.34, hopefully 3.5 by the end of the fall
Major GPA: 3.0
Major: Chemical Engineering
Prereqs left: O’Chem II, Calc III, Differential Equ., Physics 103,
ECs: Co-Founder of the Robotics Club at my CC, 9 month internship as an “Intern Chemist” (later promoted to Lab Tech for a month) at a Lufthansa electroplating lab, and I just spent a summer at USC doing [microbiology] research.
Also applying to: UCLA, UCB, UCSB, UCSC, UCI, UCSD, and Stanford.

I’m relying mostly on my ECs and my personal statement. My GPA is a result of working during the semester and a lack of motivation. I also have some APs from high school, probably won’t matter too much at this point.
I might try to find a school in the LA area that offers a course in MATLAB

Got to see a little bit of USC this past weekend and also planning on going to one of the Transfer Days for perspective students. I’m starting college next week and am surprisingly pumped. xD

Do you know if someone other than a professor can do a letter of recommendation from the common app?

Your school counselor or the director of a place you volunteer at can write you a letter of recommendation.

@Pantafootball There’s a chance you can get a boss/manager to write you a letter. I would check with the USC policy or the Common App.

@crispypotatoes I think you have a great chance! My advice is to focus on earning the grades you want first. Unless your looking for an EC that ties into your potential major, I wouldn’t worry about it too much, bc they really dont care about ECs unless you find a way to relate it to your career/major or can talk about it in your app

@golfgirl101 highly doubt that will hurt your chances, I did it!

@crispypotatoes and @Pantafootball , since you’re both applying as Juniors its extremely important that you’ve completed MOST of USC’s gen ed requirements (linked below) since they want you to do most of your major coursework on their campus. As far as pre-major coursework goes, this depends on the major you’re applying to-i know for the business school any class that isn’t macro/micro, accounting, or calc wont transfer because Marshall has a specific curriculum and they want to spend most of your time on that while you’re at USC so you can graduate. Check the specific transfer requirements for your prospective major/program and see what prereqs they recommend if any and good luck to you all!

I’ll be applying for Fall 2017, Business Administration major from a community college in PA so I look forward to hearing from all of you!

@awalksonman now I’ve seen a lot people saying that they’ve taken micro/macro and even my counselor said Econ may be a good course for me to take, however I found on a Marshall page that the recommended transfer prep is to take calc 1, the writing requirement, and accounting 1 and 2… And it also notes on the page that micro and macro MUST be taken at USC… HOWEVER this page is not accessible from USC or Marshall’s website and seems as though it may not be too recent… Would you happen to know anything about their policy on transferring Econ?
