@DirtyDonut Awesome, so as long as i mail my transcripts before February 1st I’m good?
@sc4589 exactly, make sure you send them early because with so many applicants, the mail might take longer than usual.
I think the portal is up once you apply. I believe they will email you when it is up for you.
thank you for the reponse, so just to make sure, if i have 30+ semester units or 45 quarter units done by this spring quarter of 2017, they wont look at hs grades?
@Skepta correct, as long as they’re transferable
“To meet the application deadline all you need to submit by February 1st (11:59 pm) is The Common Application & USC Writing Supplement via CommonApp. Supporting documents, such as official transcripts, may be submitted (soon) after the deadline.”
Since USC requires transcripts by mail, how so do you send them? I cant use the online service provided by my cc De anza college.
@Skepta mail or online is fine. I sent mine through the school system
which system did your cc use? was it credential solutions? also for USC transfers it says send by mail.
I’ve been lurking on this thread for quite sometimes, and I appreciate all the comments and inputs from you guys.
I was just wondering if anyone could take a look at my stats and see how are my chances this year. So, here goes:
International Student in CCC
Major: Business Administration
GPA: 3.92
Recs: 1 from my accounting professor
ECs: Tutor for Macro/Microeconomics and Accounting. Volunteered at a nursing home. Performed a significant role in my father’s company before studying at college.
Essays: I had a native speaker to revise them for me so I think they’re pretty solid.
Classes:
First Year Writing Requirement - Completed
MATH Requirement - Completed
Category A - Completed
Category B - Completed
Category C - Completed
Category D - Completed
Category E - 1 Lab in progress
Category F - Completed
Category G - Completed
Category H - Completed
I applied Marshall last year but was rejected. I guess it was because I didn’t finish my writing and math requirement at the time, but I’m not sure. I really hope I could get in USC this year. It is my dream school. Keep my fingers crossed.
I would really appreciate any comment. Thanks a lot!
@Kevinzzz I’d be shocked if you got rejected again, you’ve got literally everything complete with almost all A’s, you should be set. Also doubt you’ll even get an SGR, pretty sure you’d get straight up accepted, good luck though!
@Kevinzzz You have the same stats as I do lol You’re in good shape. I also have a lor from my accounting professor and also tutor accounting too lol and was rejected last year too lololol so much similarity except that I am not an international student. Honestly, I heard that schools favor international students especially the UCs but I’m not sure about usc.
@Kevinzzz I was stalking your stats from last year and it seems that you were in a good shape to be admitted for spring. You had 60 units completed, most of the GEs completed, AND had a 3.92gpa. You were rejected by June 1st while I, who barely completed any GEs, waited till July to hear back from them.
(I just remember somewhere that SGR applicants are not reviewed until most or all SGR applicants had sent in their SGR which is usually around late june and that explains why most people hear back late)
You had financial accounting in progress though at that time, so maybe you didn’t have all of the “major prereqs” (accounting and economics) completed as an entering junior. But I am still surprised that you weren’t admitted for spring… interesting… @penntousc what’s your input on this? Your stats is similar to his and you might encounter the exact same situation.
@pomeranian4rich he mentioned though that he didn’t have the math or writing requirements completed, and that would most certainly be the dagger… hopefully the result isn’t the same for me though lol
@penntousc Apparently I missed that part haha. Yeah, marshall requires the math and writing requirements to be completed to be considered for admission. That perfectly makes sense now why he was rejected from the get-go.
Wait, actually he had the math and writing requirements in progress.
His posts from last year:
“Got rejected by Marshall (Business Admin)
GPA: 3.97
From NorCal CC (international student)
Didn’t complete all the GE requirements since I was originally aiming for UCs (completed Berkeley 7-breadth)
English 2, Calculus 2, Financial Acct 1 in progress (Did pretty bad on the placement tests and took a lot of time completing Eng and Math requirements)
Anybody thinks that I have any chace for apeeal? And can somebody tell me how to appeal?
Thank you!”
^^^^^^^^^^^^almost note that I also had english 2,calculus2, and financial acct1 in progress of spring last year with 34 units. I do remember my admission counselor saying that with the more units you have, they expect you to be more prepared. So maybe because he had 60 units(also junior standing) and still HASN’T completed writing and math requirement yet he was rejected. I’m pretty sure many applicants with 50-64units completed would have already completed the writing and math requirement. It was would reasonable for applicants with 30 - 50 units (Sophomore standing) to have math and requirements in progress for spring, hence the reason for SGR. I just answered my own question lol.
@pomeranian4rich I’m thinking it must have been the difference in GE curriculum between the UCs and USC, and the build up courses for math and English which probably didn’t transfer/look good
@penntousc UCs and USC GEs aren’t too much different. I followed the usc GEs and it fulfilled all my UCs GEs.
@penntousc Thank you so much! I appreciate your words. I wish you all the good luck as well. I guess if you could complete those requirements by Spring and submit solid essays, you should be in good shape! What I regret the most is that I didn’t put much effort on my personal statements last year lol.
@pomeranian4rich I appreciate your comments. What a coincidence lol. I guess another reason for my last year rejection was that I didn’t put that much effort on my essays and they were BORING…Cuz I favored Hass. Now that I figured USC might be a better fit for me because its alumni and programs and Hass’ admit rate is just so low… I’ve heard UCs prefer international students but also heard that they started to accept more citizens since last year. But I only care about private schools this year so whatever lol. I hope we just get an outright acceptance letter this year hahaha.
@pomeranian4rich @penntousc wait I’m basically in the high 40s unit range with calculus being my only requirement left to complete… you think that going to affect me since I’m kinda on the junior standing and they expect it done?
@pantafootball you should be fine. you’re not near the 64 units mark. I, for example, have 68 units right now and completed everything.
