@Skepta then I would say you have a pretty solid chance. Don’t stress yourself out so much, all we can really do now is wait for the decisions
@Skepta That’s nice, you have high chances of being accepted but there’s no such thing as a guarantee acceptance at a selective institution like USC, unless there’s some sort of CCC arrangement of the sorts(I’m not from Cali so I have no idea about that really, but I know some Florida universities do that)
So does anyone know how we are supposed to have NON-academic recommenders submit their letters of recommendation? On the common app it only allows you to invite academic evaluators. Should I have my employer just send the letter of rec through the mail?
Woooo completed the 650 word common app essay! All that’s left is revision
@gosteelers123abc I’m pretty sure you can add the employer as an academic evaluator because they are technically writing about your academic skills
Anyone here not at a community college?
@stahboy I’m applying as a transfer from a community college for econ Major. 23 quarter units done, 54 quarters will be done by spring. 4.00 cc GPA at the time of applying. HS GPA was 2.6 and 1780 SAT. Btw I emailed Neelam Salma, (the senior admissions director for transfers) to ask if I need to send my SAT since IL have 30+ semester units done by spring, and she told me to mail my SAT scores anyway since at the time of applying I don’t have 30+ units done.
@stahboy Aye. It’s a shame that all of my friends who have amazing grades and ECs aren’t bothering to apply to top universities. Not trying to say that a college will define your future but you’ve got to make the most of your potential, you know?
After one of them told me that they wouldn’t pay 60k to attend a private college, I asked one of him “Are you familiar with need-blind/meet full need colleges?”
“no.”
I’ve got so much to tell him, oooh boooy CC is going to get another member.
@AGoodFloridian I have a bunch of friends as well that are completely in the dark when it comes to opportunities like this, everyone just assumes that it’s expected to settle for the state school route (not to discredit anyone at a state school, because they’re not bad schools), and I partially blame it on high school counselors. They don’t really encourage students to explore the possibility of attending OOS and/or top universities, so most students just find the idea to be completely unrealistic. I had a 2.78 in high school and didn’t really have any particular school in mind, so I’m extremely grateful that I managed to find the USC '16 Transfer thread when I was researching some top schools, might have saved my future to be honest.
@penntousc I am applying to USC as a freshman from a community college. My high school gpa was similar (2.6 gpa) and SAT 1780 both which I sent in my app., I have taken 23 quarter units so far and ended with a 4.00. 54 quarter units will be done by spring. (All transferable courses). Also 1 professor recommendation. Do.you.think my HS GPA and SAT that I sent will effect my chances.
@Skepta 54 quarter units is equivalent to 36 semester units, so your HS GPA and test scores won’t affect your chances. They request that you send them in as proof that you’ve graduated and taken the test(s), but those statistics will not be considered.
@penntousc thank you for the answer! Lol I was freaking out.
@Skepta yeah just focus on your college courses. If you keep the high GPA and complete a bunch of GEs as well as the necessary requirements (math, writing, language, etc) for your major, you’ll be a competitive applicant no doubt
Yes. I guess I’ll have to if it’s required. I just wanted to finish as many classes as I can lol
Hey do you guys know if you can electronically send USC your transcripts or does it have to be by mail? Been following this thread for a while but never posted anything lol.
@lilego69 Either is fine. I sent mine electronically
@lilego69 yeah either is fine. I also sent mine electronically because I personally don’t trust the mail service anymore after a letter of recommendation to Stanford got lost in the mail. I always do electronic for anything now if it is possible lol
How many of you have submitted your app? I plan to submit this weekend
I’m submitting mine today
Anyone following the old GE curriculum? I feel like I am the only one… lol. I attended a CCC from 2008-2009 and then again full time since Fall 2014.
