Let’s all try to keep this thread going until our admission letters are out and then let’s post our decisions!

Good luck to all of us!!!

P.S. I am just ‘copy and pasting’ last year’s thread, for simplicity’s sake. I give credit to leilanifaith.

I’ll start out, and would like to ask for your guys’ opinions.

Major: Liberal Studies (Elementary Education)
Location: South San Diego
GPA: 2.85
AA: AA yes; no AA-T
TAG: No. Out of Area.
Other Schools Applied to: SDSU, CSU Chico, CSU Bakersfield (I have family in that area)

So here’s my situation, if anyone cares to read it/and or chime in with advice.

I’ve been attending community colleges (Southwestern and SDCCD) on and off forever, about 6 years now. I’ve taken a semester off here and there, failed a few courses, withdrawn etc. I am not a disciplined and academically oriented student. But, it wasn’t entirely for my lack of discipline. I sustained a head injury 5 years ago, had post-concussion syndrome, needed some physical therapy, and developed anxiety related to my health. So, I wasn’t able to apply myself, at my fullest in this post-accident part of my life.

My transcripts are very ugly, full of Cs, and Ws from 3-5 years ago. I’ve since tried to clean up my act, but it’s too late - the damage has been done. Well anyway, I took several classes, initially as a psych major, but I discovered my calling in working with children, perhaps, even with special ed. So that’s how I’m an education major now.

So that’s a brief background. Here’s my great cause for concern. SDSU has a 10% admission rate or something crazy low like that. I’ve heard unofficial anecdotes that their average GPA cut off is about 3.2-3.3. Because of my background, I don’t have a stellar record, and I don’t have the grades. My local school will reject me, it’s all but a given. I can’t pack up and leave San Diego County, because this is where I have a network of doctors I follow up with. I don’t have any other attachment besides that, maybe a little love for this place. But I really don’t want to go anywhere else. That leaves me with one remaining public school choice: CSUSM. The problem is? I’m out of area.

In case anyone is wondering, I’ve considered a private school but I can’t afford the tuition and I don’t feel comfortable signing up for 20k loans a year when there’s the possibility I might stumble in a class and waste all this money. Plus, some of them have this diploma mill reputation.

Realistically, what are the chances that CSUSM will accept me? Golden Four is complete and I have close to 80 transferable units, and all but one, pre-req missing from Assist. …If I get denied, can I appeal and write about my sob story? Obviously, I don’t expect anyone to care, but I just want to really show my interest in being allowed in. I have a couple of letters of recommendation from educators too. Do you know if it’s possible to talk to someone in person, to try to persuade them to take my application or this unethical?

Wow, this was a long post. I’ll be surprised if anyone reads through it. Thanks to those who do, and may offer some advice. Good luck to everyone.

@Comfy-Guy92 did you get accepted?!

I’m interested too.
