Jamaxmom, I have a S at Harvard and a D at Williams and as far as i am concerned it is 6-5/pick’em. Both of my kids have had wonderful experience and both are extraordinarily happy–and both are absolutely right for where they ened up. It all depends on what sort of experience your child wants-- if she wants a college experience where she will get to know her teachers and feel a part of a tight community then she cannot do better than four years in Williamstown–On the other hand if she wants to be part of a university where the sky is the limit and she can start graduate work as a freshman or work 60 hours for a newspaper or literary magazine then Cambridge is the place to be.

Forget hype–have her know herself–who she is, how she will thrive. Both colleges will provide a wonderful four years, both will prepare her for graduate, professional school or top tier employment, both have alumni networks that are the envy of almost all other colleges. Where will she thrive? Then set her heart there…

Los Angeles, no hooks
Just committed to Johns Hopkins!
What do you all know about how the WL works? I’ve heard about people being “released” in waves in May. Is this true? Anyone know when “z-listers” are notified? Also, should no offer of admission be offered by the time school lets out, is it worth it to send final grades or should I just wait until the offer is given or not? The grades will most likely not reflect the rest of my high school career, lol.

New York. I don’t know what you guys mean by hooks as I tried to avoid this site until recently. ummm, national merit recipient, Intel ISEF 4th Place in Computer Science, Siemens National Science Competition Semifinalist, 800s for 2 SATIIs, 1st Place for my division in NYS Tae Kwon Do Championship, 2 years all-state on clarinet. other stuff too? idk what to write so I just listed a few things
anyway, the main reason I’m hoping to get in is financial stuff. right now I’m planning on attending MIT but their financial aid sucks. so if I get off the waitlist, harvard generally gives far superior financial aid so I’m hoping for that :D

I haven’t really been thinking about it for a few weeks, but with the decision date coming up I’m starting to get a little antsy about the waitlist. Hard to imagine that it’s only a few weeks until a good number of us will know.

Thank you for your encouraging words Etondad. It’s likely my D would still pick Williams even if accepted to Harvard off the waitlist, but she wanted to keep the option just in case. She had a great time staying on William’s campus with a student host earlier this month, although she still loves Boston (luckily we flew out from Logan April 14th!). Perhaps she will meet your daughter there.

Just made the deposit to TUFTS. Their FA and Scholarships offer to my S is amazing. I just have to pay as LITTLE as half of BC payment for my D. Anyway, if Harvard is toooo high for us now, we will get there in 4 years - NP.

What kind of updates have people been sending in? Just wondering what kind of info is important enough for the admissions office. I emailed the office and they said to email any updates, but that probably wouldn’t work for additional recs (is that a sign to not send in anything relatively large/complicated?) Has anyone physically mailed in new materials?

Yes, WLed accepted students get the same FA as if they had been accepted in April. They also know what their FA award is before they have to commit or decline Harvard’s offer.

On the other waitlist 2017 thread, waitlistees estimated that the yield would drop slightly. The yield will be announced soon, of course but anyone else want to venture a guess as to the yield, especially in regards to recent events including the cancellation of Visitas? Or potential waitlist activity - more or less than previous year?

Hi, did anyone else get a letter by mail ,this morning/in the past few days, from his regional admissions officer thanking him for sending the letter?
