***2017 National Merit Finalist Thread***

Thanks! Have you heard anything yet?

@Okie2017 ā€¦thank you for all the information. Again, Congratulations!!

@Okie2017 Congratulations! Are you going to go to OU? Also, did you complete 10 AP classes by end of Junior?

School confirmed no mail in Houston today. :)]

Still nothing in california :frowning:

Nothing here yet (NY), but school was slow with NMSF also.

FL homeschool parent here. Positive letter arrived today. Best of luck to those of you still waiting!

My sonā€™s principal called me to let us know that my son was a Finalist. (Not sure why he didnā€™t call my son directly.) Either way, so glad the long wait is over. Although it has always essentially been a foregone conclusion, it is nice to have confirmation.

Congratulations to all the Finalists.

Congrats to all of the NMFs! S and I will be waiting with next yearā€™s group, but Iā€™ve been lurking on your thread so we know what to expect.

@prospect17 No, I did 4 AP classes last year and 6 this year.

On another note, I got rejected from UF even though I thought I had a really good shot. You can look at my recent comment history where I put my stats. It was my top school, but things happen for a reason I guess. I got into FSUā€™s honors program, so thatā€™s good. If I get the Benacquisto Scholarship, I believe I can go for free (itā€™s the cost of attendance - (BF+NM)) so thatā€™s also another benefit. Iā€™m really hoping I get finalist now lol.

Now Iā€™m really antsyā€¦Just read through all 15 pages of the forum and saw all the many confirmed finalists. Congratulations to you all, but Iā€™m thinking Iā€™ll have to wait until Monday to hear word. Iā€™m in small town Idaho.

Son was sick today so still no word as to whether the school received the letter today. For those posting SAT scores, it will probably be helpful for future worriers if the SAT index score is provided. The confirming score this year was confirmed based on an index score which NMC told a few of us would not be higher than 209 but in the last month or so weā€™ve seen on cc mention of the SAT confirming score index being 206 or higher.

I received positive confirmation today up here in NH! If I can ask a quick question to fellow NMFs, Iā€™m between OU and the University of Kentucky. Does anyone have any particular input on these 2 schools?

MN homeschooler here, we got the Finalist letter today! Hooray

@CrimsonCulture, I donā€™t know anything about Kentucky, but my son and husband visited OU and were very impressed. They liked the school atmosphere, the town, and the way the school rolled out the red carpet for the potential scholars. We are going back in March for him to meet with the departments, sit in on classes, and get a fuller feel for the school. All of this organized through their scholars dept. plus, the NM scholarship gives five years of tuition, which is helpful if youā€™re looking to complete a master degree.

Got the finalist notification just before school ended yesterday in Iowa. It was a visible relief for S. Congratulations to everyone else and good vibes to those still waiting to hear.

Still waiting hear in FL - daughter has gotten in to all schools applied to so far, FSU honors, UCF honors, North Carolina, SCAD, Tulane, UF, still waiting for Duke and Yale. I am hoping sheā€™ll just stay in FL now and go full ride with Benaquisto. I couldnā€™t convince her to go look at OU, she just didnā€™t want to go so far west. Her sister is very interested, if she qualifies in a few years. Anyway, probably UF or UCF, as sheā€™s into computer science right now. Canā€™t wait to hear on Monday, hopefully.

OU seems to be the front runner here at the moment. Just hard to ignore them. From day one they have been detailed, came to texas three different times including President Boren, and none of the rah rah rah stuff. All fact based presentations. The scholarā€™s office and honors have an elaborate support system in place for the students. Better, on the surface, than all of the other honors colleges being considered, butā€¦ going up for scholars weekend on the 19th/20th. to see and learn more. They pay the hotel------ they offered. Full program including individual appointments with various departments, if you request it. Also, they offer a pre engineering month in July called Summer Bridge. Focused on maths, and you take a test so you are placed correctly. Full room, board, and hands on, as well as meeting future fellow studentsā€¦ $400 dollars for a month!!! You cannot beat that. Probably AT&T underwrites it, since it is called ATT Summer Bridge. Plus the commute is reasonable either by car, or just get on Sw Airlines, so another low over head cost factor. The only glaring thing one could say is NOT good, are the various hate incidents over the last couple of years. One of the students was from Texas, so not even an Okeee. Impression from talking to students who answer the phones, others, and the schoolā€™s response, they seem embarassed by these events, are very pro-active (the haters are no longer a part of the student body, and the fraternity of one is banned), seems a right balance. Also, unlike texas now, guns are NOT allowed on campus or alcohol, though no doubt plenty of beer still abounds. If one doesnā€™t like huge Greek life on a campus, hope is that the strong scholars programs (840 NMFā€™s currently on campus) will be like joining a fraternity w/o the negatives. Anywayā€¦ will see how the upcoming weekend goes!

Has anyone on the west coast gotten anything? California Nevada Oregon Washington???
