@Ynotgo - sorry! son got 228 SSI, 2320 old SAT, GPA-not sure, but high
Nothing on my daughterâs portal when I checked yesterday, so Iâm assuming she didnât receive it. Congrats to those that did!
SSI: 224
SAT:1490 (same score as PSAT; 35 on ACT)
GPA: 95.5%
@Tgirlfriend this is exciting as NMF. weâre waiting on private colleges (5%-7% acceptance rates), before we make our final decision on scholarship offers
The dust that has settled on D17âs portal page looks unaltered. Obviously no one-time scholarship. Guess itâs the UChicago college-sponsored NM award or bust. Would feel a bit less nervous if they listed her college choice on the main page. We keep double checking to see that it hasnât disappeared. She listed it before the first round notifications to colleges on 3/1.
SSI: 220 (MN)
rSAT: 1500
ACT: 34
SAT II: Math 2 740; USH 760 (didnât submit UChicago)
Note: She submitted just ACT to UChicago, not SATI or II.
UW GPA: 3.9
SSi -220, SAT- 1540 GPA3.85. Didnât get 2500$, but then again I didnât name a school that automatically admits you as a finalist. Iâm thrilled to be in such grand company to even be considered. Congrats to all the deserving awardees and parents. Good luck in your freshman years!
Son didnât get anythingâŠ2400 SAT, 4.0 unweighted GPA
Wow! That hurts!
@calmomofcats If your son didnât get the scholarship with his stats then that leads me to believe that they give essay and ECâs a lot of weight. Maybe even equal weight. That then is in the hands of peoples perceptions and not numbers. Holistic. Iâm sure there are some essays that are just inspiring in the events that some had to overcome or were themselves inspired by. Congrats all!
Ds received $2500. Uw 4.0 ssi 225 sat 2400
@snicks1234 His essay and ECs were also impressive. Just unlucky I guess!
D received the $2500 scholarship. Her SAT score was lower than a lot of other applicants since she took it just for NM after receiving a much better score on the ACT. Her result leads me to believe that the essay is highly valued for receiving the scholarship, but obviously, this is only one data point.
GPA (UW): 3.9
SSI: 225
SAT: 1470
For consideration: âBecause every Semifinalist who qualifies as a Final- ist has an excellent academic record and outstanding test scores, the school officialâs characterization of the student and the studentâs essay play an important part in the process of choosing Merit Scholar designees. Activities, awards, and employment are also considered.â http://nationalmerit.imodules.com/s/1758/images/gid2/editor_documents/merit_about_leaflet.pdf?sessionid=4c492708-5eab-4cd8-a707-81b58b18eeca&csid=156009
My son didnât get it either. He had the same stats as our other two kids that got it before. Perfect grades. 223 Index. Best essay ever. Shoot.
@calmomofcats I agree! It doesnât mean that his essay wasnât as stellar or that his ECs werenât as good. Who knows who is judging and what their moods are. I know I have some sour grapes, but my son got a letter from Duke about how good his essay was when he was admitted, and his EC could not be more sincere. All his numbers were as high as could be. So I think itâs a bit of unlucky involved here!!! He is no lesser a student than my 2 who DID win the dang thing. Iâm going to count our blessings today. So many families suffer so much disappointment this time of year. Today is a day to look for the good and be grateful for what we DO have. You do the same.
@DukeShama -thank you! My son has had a lot of luck this admissions cycle (accepted to Stanford and MIT) so he was bound to get unlucky somewhere! I know his application was the best it could have been. We were just hoping for a little bit of money
so if i didnât get a letter update on my portal, did i not receive the $2500 scholarship?
It was reported that one time someone got a late one in May, so I guess it is still possible. Alas, my S2 didnât get one. Also, his Dadâs employer just stopped sponsoring them, and he didnât apply to any colleges that sponsor them, so we just have to be happy that he was honored as a finalist.
SSI: 226
SAT: 1590/1600
UW GPA: 4.0
Do you know for sure that they are mailed and posted on portal? My son is traveling in Europe and I donât know his portal login. Also, what is the deadline to accept the scholarship?
@djclawyer â you can call NMSC, and theyâll tell you if he got it. When DS called, they said they send these out on a rolling basis through May (but I get the impression there are not many more). Letters saying you did not receive a scholarship are sent out in June.
Congrats to all who get this â nice to have the $. DS was disappointed at first, but like some of you above, we feel so fortunate with how things have turned out on admissions that this would just have been icing. Also, just to toss out a conspiracy theory, I wonder whether NMSC gave extra weight to SAT scores over ACT, especially for those applicants who did not bother with the troubled (for this class) SAT until they âhadâ to take it as a confirming score. Maybe their feelings were hurt.
Nah! I took the SAT. Think they just went holistic.
