Presidential = full tuition
NYS STEM Incentive = full tuition + 5 year commitment
The two awards are the same. They will pay your tuition. They are not stackable.

My son also got it - received letter in mail today. And yes, you lose Provost, if you get selected for presidential scholarship.
I don’t believe the Presidential is designated specifically for tuition. Although it will way more than cover tuition. Is there somewhere that you read they are not stackable?
My mistake. Apologies.
I thought Presidential was for tuition. It’s actually a $15,000 annual award. So it may be stackable on top of NYS STEM Incentive.
Again, sorry for the mistake.
@STEM Not a problem at all, I was just wondering.
@noviceParent Congrats to you too! What’s your son’s major?
I know this is not the right forum for me, but a lot of you have been accepted. I have a question. Has anyone noticed the portal page change? We have not heard from UB but the portal was changed last week. It says UB Person Number that is different number than Reference number. Does any of you have this experience? Thanks!
The Presidential and NYS Stem can be stacked.
The letter states that the Presidential replaces any previous merit aid, like Provost. @LkL5789 did you ask the school if Presidential and NYS Stem can be stacked? That makes it still nearly a full ride for those that quality for the STEM Incentive (and are willing to work in NY for 5 years post-grad).
@stencils my son got presidential at stony brook and they said it stacked with NYS stem. I assume it is the same for UB.
@LkL5789 Thanks!
Gotta love the stack!
@STEM2017 yep!
@LkL5789 I thought that Stoneybrooks Presidential was designated for tuition only? STEM incentive is also tuition only. I’m surprised they can be stacked if that’s the case. It’s great if it can be.
@Tinijocaro from SB website:
Because student financial need is sometimes an eligibility requirement or consideration, we encourage you to submit the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) as early as possible, in January of the year preceding your fall enrollment. Offered scholarships will be part of the complete financial aid award package, which cannot exceed the budgeted cost of attendance. Scholarships can be applied to any of the costs associated with a student’s Stony Brook education and need not be used for tuition only.
I also got a letter saying I received the Presidential Scholarship! So excited! As for stacking, my guess is that the STEM award and the Presidential Scholarship cannot be stacked. However, I don’t know for sure but will I definitely look into it! Congrats to those who also got the award, hopefully I’ll see you next year!
LkL5789 Well that’s awesome! Stack away!!
@olivia322 Congrats to you! So glad to hear!
Is the Presidential being given out now? Son received a Provost so I figured that was it. I wonder if he still might get the a Presidential? Was there a separate application?
There was a separate application (due early Jan.) and then an interview process that took place in early February @STEM2017
