2017 Schreyer applicants: Anyone accepted to University Park yet?

Has anyone been accepted to University Park that applied to Schreyers? Please post your major or if you are undeclared.

I applied for SHC, and have been accepted into UP.

Congrats! We are still waiting…my son applied in October.

Our daughter has been accepted to UP and applied to Schreyer

if i don’t apply for honors for first year, can I apply later like for sophomore year and still get the scholarship?

Did those that apply to the SHC get an email for an interview? They said it was a pilot program.

I got the interview email. However, I have a friend that applied for SHC and was accepted to UP who did not receive it. I would think that both of us are very qualified applicants, so I’m not sure what to make of the email.

My son has applied to Schreyer, and was accepted to UP in November. He is undecided. He did receive the interview e-mail, and having his interview this Saturday.

br2pi5 - see the link for requirements.

[Gateway Admissions: Schreyer Honors College](404 Error: Page Not Found - Schreyer Honors College (SHC) at Penn State University)

It appears that you can apply after completion of one full time semester. However, scholarships are not awarded to “gateway” applicants.

I think since it is a pilot program they are not interviewing everyone? And people can still apply for SHC up till January 15th.

My son was accepted to UP for the summer session - Smeal College of Business - Still waiting on Schreyers. No inteview email. BELIEVE62

I was accepted to UP and applied to Shreyers. I also got the interview email im going for mine on Saturday. Does anyone know when decisions will be posted?

I think decisions have always come out the first week of March.

jonmo77 Hi! Did your son mention whether he was told during his interview that this was a pilot program or are only candidates under consideration receiving interviews? Thanks! BELIEVE62

Believe62 —Not sure what you mean by a pilot program? I thought “alumni interviewing” was the pilot program?? I’m pretty sure SHC interviews all candidates that are under consideration. Schreyers reached out to my son before he thought of applying, he was invited out and has recieved several emails from them. I don’t want to discourage you or your child but Schreyers typically represents the top 5% (according to their website). If a student didn’t meet the criteria to be accepted directly to fall UP they may not meet SHC criteria.

I can assure everyone that SHC does not interview everyone. It is still in the experimental stage and is being conducted in limited areas only (Philly, Pitts, DC and NYC areas).
At most (all?) schools, alumni interviews are mostly informal. Interviews with admissions officials are not. Alumni, due to FERPA laws, cannot (or really should not) have access to essential student information that would be required to conduct a truly informative interview/evaluation.
Many are contacted by SHC based on some type of information. I suspect PSAT scores (although, ironically, the SAT scores have little to no impact on admissions decisions into SHC).

blewisjrjr My son chose the summer session at UP because that option came with an acceptance to Smeal. He was invited a few months ago to SHC and met with school personnel but I believe that was open to everyone interested. No worries with the GPA or test scores. Good Luck to your son!

luvthej Thanks for the info! Another post confirmed what you are saying as well… I can only hope the stars line up the way they are suppose to (destiny) for my son and ultimately he enjoys and finds his college experience rewarding. BELIEVE62

SHC or not, Penn State is a great school and if he attends he will enjoy it and find it all worthwhile. This is especially true if he is willing to take full advantage of what it has to offer. Good luck with fall move in day. It challenges even the most patient person, but then again, that’s all part of the experience.

luvthej My son did accept and he starts in the summer. I was told he could store his things after the summer session for the fall session. But now I am wondering if that is a good idea considering what goes on for fall move in day…Yikes…My head is already spinning! BELIEVE62

Son got into PSU Main but still did not hear from SHC i think the date for that is March 6. No interview request either i think that is a pilot program.
