2018 - 2019 USC Transfer

Hey folks. Any Psych majors out there applying/applied to usc? Also, I’ve been looking at the past admission stats threads and Ive noticed that a lot of the Psych acceptances have had a bit of lower GPA stats (around 3.5 and one as low as 3.3 assuming they are all legit). Does the psych major at SC give more leeway or is it not as competitive? Appreciate if someone knew any info.

@ernesto98 I applied as a psych major too, did you get an SGR?

@NotLonelyIsland I may be wrong, but an SGR is different, i think you need a pdf under app status or something, also you get an email and a letter as far as i know. I dont think with a transcript request you get either. Again, i may be wrong, i havent gotten an SGR yet.

Does anyone know if applicants to SCA or other more portfolio/audition based programs usually get an SGR, as grades aren’t necessarily the determining factors for these programs?

@ernesto98 i am a psych major as well!

Freshman Dornslife applicant (Narrative Studies major) checking in. Nothing on my end either :-/ fingers crossed for all of us!

When applying as a transfer does Dornsife admit you by major or not? Because I know for freshmen applicants they don’t look at what major you’re applying for.

@NotLonelyIsland aw I really thought you wouldn’t get an SGR too. Seems like most non-ttp freshmen are getting SGRs first this year. I was hopeful because I know several Marshall sophomore applicants got in right away last year haha

@Elena1355 unfortunately I did which I guess is better than rejection. I have a 3.52 so probably on the cusp. Are you coming from CC or 4 year and do you mind sharing your GPA?

@collegerose HAHA I joined the club :P. Yeah it definitely seems like that. I was hopeful for the same reason but oh well. I guess we’re all in for the wait together!

@firelordozaii Nah I’m pretty sure it’s an SGR bc it says “We have requested your spring term grades. We mailed you specific instructions on how to submit your grades for expedited processing. We hope to receive the grades before June 30. We expect you will be notified of our final decision by mid-July.”

hold up, i dont think thats what we got @NotLonelyIsland . I think it was just a transcript request, at least for me it was, it didn’t say anything else.

So what if I get an SGR, but my college doesn’t release grades until June 15?

I am pretty sure it’s a SGR, I got exactly the same message as @NotLonelyIsland. A couple of days later I also got a PDF.

@ivctransfer99 I’m in the same boat :frowning: However, my semester ends next Tuesday.

@ernesto98 I’m a psych major as well! Hope you’re right about the slightly lower GPA, I’m in the same boat. Are you coming from a CC or 4 year?

The anxiety is starting to build…

@Vincent1997 My college will also be releasing grades late. On the paper they sent me, it says you can just upload your unofficial transcript yourself on the portal.

@Vincent1997 I’ve read online that USC is pretty understanding when it come to working with your term dates. I think they just want them within two weeks or basically ASAP.

@collegerose My issue is that my college doesn’t even release unofficial grade until June 15.

@csumit Thank you. I’ll send it asap. I suppose luckily for me, USC knows my CC, so they should be familiar with that issue.

@Vincent1997 yup me too but as long as you send it before June 30th you’re good. I read on previous threads that USC does not start reviewing most of the SGRs until after June 30th which is why most of the decisions come in July.
