2018 - 2019 USC Transfer

i sent out my college transcripts 1/18 but my YouSC account still says it’s missing, should I wait a while or just send it out again?

@gearsekandou Send out as your school send it right?

@Vincent1997 yea, i requested it to be sent and it shows that it was mailed 1/18, but my yousc doesnt say it was received. wondering if i should wait for it to be updated or just send it again…

@gearsekandou I am having a similar problem, but I contacted my USC counselor, and he said that everything was fine.

You might want to call or contact your counselor just to be safe. This is the number that you can call to ask about that issue: (213) 740-1111

@HenAMPM thanks! i’ll try calling tomorrow!

It doesn’t hurt to resend the transcript too. Just of be safe.

I applied back in 2015 as a first year and at that time I submitted my official high school transcript. Do I need to submit it again for this year?(applying as transfer) In my yousc portal its not under my required documents

Hey everyone! I want to preface this by saying that I am not at ALL trying to say that community college is in anyway less than a 4 year university or offend anyone. In fact, I wish that I had gone to a CC before applying to transfer to USC rather than wasting my money at a university I hated. Anyway, I noticed throughout this thread that those coming from CC have really high GPA’s - close to 4.0. My GPA is lower than this, but does the fact that I’m coming from a university rather than a CC make a difference? Again, not in anyway trying to say anything bad about CC. I just genuinely don’t know that much about it!

Also another more general question, can we submit our application on the CommonApp before our recommender has submitted their letter? I’m trying to finish off my apps and I’ve invited my recommender, but I don’t think she’ll have it ready until close to the deadline. If I send it in now, will she still be able to submit it later on?

@collegestas I would send in your high school transcript ASAP

@dddaaaa250 I totally get what you mean involving a CC and a 4 year college. In my opinion, I do think that admissions considers the rigor of each school and may “tolerate” a lower GPA from a 4 year university. Also, I sent in my Common Application without one recommendation, but I’m not sure if that missing recommendation ever gets updated.

@dddaaaa250 You can submit it before the recommendation is written, yes. The University will receive the recommendation, as soon as your professor submits it.
As far as CC vs. University goes, I think it depends a lot on what University you’re at. A 3.6 GPA from Cal-state is probably not very impressive. On the other hand a 3.6 GPA from UCLA would be pretty competitive.

@armadaswim Under my “Received Documents” it says “Transcripts:‘my high school name’” So im assuming they still have it on file. Should I still send just in case?

@collegestas I guess if they have it on file, then they have the transcript. I would send it just in case.

@dddaaaa250 There is a difference between a community college and a 4 year university and I read online on the USC website (I’ll try to find it) that USC considers the coursework you complete and the grades you receive in context with the place you are transferring from so I do think that its okay that you have a lower GPA coming from a 4 year. LOL im applying from community college and when I read your post no way did I think you were putting down community colleges so dont worry about it!

@dddaaaa250 I remember an applicant from last year that had around a 3.5 and he wanted to transfer from UCB. A lot of people in the UC Transfer thread seem to say that UCB is arguably the most rigorous/prestigious UC, so I was confident that he had a chance despite not being at the 3.7 transfer average GPA. I felt terrible when he got rejected; I felt like I gave him false hope. I know what you mean though. At a CC (at least at mine), a lot of the students aren’t motivated and do the bare minimum to pass the class. For this reason, it really seems like the A’s available are easier to get - nobody is fighting for those A’s unlike at a 4 year university class that might operate on a harsh curve. Of course, I had a 4.0 from my CC and I was rejected the first time I tried to transfer, lol :stuck_out_tongue: So USC definitely doesn’t just automatically accept every CC applicant that has a 4.0 - there are a lot of other factors.

I sent an email to my advisor on Friday, and I still have not heard back. Shall I continue to have patience, or do I send another email?

@aznboi4981 I’d wait a little bit longer. Your advisor might be busy with HS applicant related matters. My advisor would never reply on Fridays. If you don’t hear anything by tomorrow evening, I’d follow up.

Hello everyone,
I am a first-year at SDSU. I am wanting to transfer to USC after my sophomore year. My first semester GPA was 3.74. I am wondering whether I should go to CC next year or stay at SDSU. Any help would be appreciated!

Still no reply from my advisor. Could it because I did not include my USC ID number??? I ended up receiving the ID number once I made my account the day after I sent the email. Meh, they’re probably so busy, which I 100% understand.
