2018 - 2019 USC Transfer

@collegequestions1799 Mine said it was coming from “LOS ANGELES CA DISTRIBUTION CENTER” i think it should say “University of Southern California” on it (mine did), but I am not completely certain

@anontransf My portal updated 2 days after I received my package

@csumit I’m pretty sure last week of may since they just started looking it over. He said something about how they review it and also send it to the engineering department to review it so I’m guessing most of it will come out very late. And if u don’t have a lot of the courses completed, they might also ask for ur spring grades after that.

Has anyone been accepted that is not TTP? Congrats! @ilovelamps

@ All early admits: just called the USC Office of Admissions so you don’t have to-- USC has to manually enable your ability to submit an enrollment commitment deposit, since we’re part of a pretty small group of currently admitted transfers. I was told that “no transfer student can submit the deposit yet, but it should be possible within the next few days.”

Cheers, and I can’t wait to meet you on the other side! :slight_smile:

Thanks @ilovelamps. Congrats on your acceptance!

Another question! For those who got an SGR, did you get one in the mail? Or did they just email you/update the portal?

@ilovelamps I got accepted March 30 and my financial aid just updated yesterday!

FA should update about a week after you are accepted. Standard m.o.

The FAQ on USC says that transfer students get either the decision or the SGR (Spring Grade Request) on May 31. How come some of you are getting yours around this week?

@StipendAwarded Everything they do is rolling. That’s just a general deadline to tell you that you should get something by May 31, whether it be an SGR, acceptance or rejection. Most of the people getting things right now are TTP, which get decisions earlier than normal transfers. If I were you, I’d take a look at last year’s transfer thread http://talk.qa.collegeconfidential.com/transfer-students/1903737-2017-2018-usc-transfer.html. It’s long but if you search through it, it pretty much has everything you need to know.

@NotLonelyIsland TTP is for legacy right?

“TTP is not just legacy or borderline applicants. Some TTPs are coming in having had 4.6gpas and 34 ACTs they just didn’t get into a major that was over applied to at the time. Lots of reasons to get TTP offered. Same thing with spring admits, when you have 65,000 applying and are turning away 3000-4000 with a 4.0 and 99 percentile test scores, there are a lot in the queue waiting to get in. Sure, some may have lower scores since USC is holistic, but it really has nothing to do with lower anything overall.” - @CADREAMIN

Post #849, you were tagged in the post too :slight_smile:

Also, the common app prompts don’t change for transfers so prompt 1 was “Describe something outside of your intended academic focus about which you are interested in learning” prompt 2 was “Describe how you plan to pursue your academic interests at USC. Please feel free to address your first- and second-choice major selections.” You also get the short answer ones that ask about the hashtag and stuff. The common app essay prompt is “Please provide a statement that addresses your reasons for transferring and the objectives you hope to achieve.” You might have more prompts depending on which school you’re applying to.

@StipendAwarded Yup, SGR = spring grade request. Oh, you could totally send in your spring transcript before the admission counselor asks for it. I think it’s a good thing to keep your counselor busy, lol. :stuck_out_tongue: I took winter classes and a 6-week course during my first transfer attempt and I sent in those grades/transcripts as they posted.

The transfer prompts could very well be the same next year, but I would imagine they have to differ from the prompts for HS applicants. I mean the audience is different, so they would have to be different in some ways. I remember a prompt that asked why I wanted to transfer, so that definitely seems like a transfer-centric prompt that I wouldn’t expect for a HS applicant. Somebody on here showed me their transfer prompts and they were definitely different than the ones I remembered. Although, I applied in 2015, so I’m a bit of a fossil :slight_smile:

@CADREAMIN

As a TTP applicant with a GPA of 3.95 from last semester and better than average HS profile (GPA 3.8, ACT 35). I have been anxiously looking forward to receiving the package from USC. However, I have not heard anything from USC.

Based on your observation, does USC usually roll out early TTP acceptance school by school? Or it is purely random (not sorted by GPA or any other order), and the admission officers just need more than one week to finish processing all TTP applicants?

I think I have figured out that they prefer to drop the mail on Thursday, so that the students may have a whole weekend to enjoy their time together with their family members.

@durtysouth I saw it update in my portal first and then I got a letter with specific instructions

@frozenbighead Holy crap how did you get denied applying out of HS? 3.8 and a 35 ACT what did you do wrong? Surely you could have gotten into other great schools, what is telling you to go to USC?

@joeyfreshwater lots of kids with perfect stats get denied from USC out of high school. Saying things like “what did you do wrong” is ridiculous and frankly, kind of mean. I’m sure you didn’t intend it that way, but …

@collegekid82 I have the same situation as you almost but I am at a CC. I got a SGR on March 30th so I am assuming you will also. Goodluck! I got a 3.25 last sem due to a terrible math teacher (6 unit class). Brought me down a lot but I am taking 21 units and should have a 3.68 after this sem. Goodluck!!

@joeyfreshwater my brother had those same stats plus being a NMF.

USC was the only elite that he didn’t get rejected by. Caltech, Ucla, Stanford, Berkeley all said no to him.

Who knows what goes thru the minds of admissions…

@jmek15 Yeah, makes sense. I didn’t mean for it to come off like that, but I think you get what I mean anyways.

@OmaNebr What is NMF?
