2018 Commons Reading - Salvage the Bones

Has anyone received this yet?

Nope. I didn’t even get the Road to Vanderbilt! :P

My son got his yesterday (Dayton, OH).

Yesterday here in FL.

Daughter got it yesterday in AL. It must be a really easy read because she read about half of it in about 45 minutes.

We have not received the Commons Reading book. DS only received his Road to Vanderbilt little over a week ago.

Got mine yesterday (SC) But I never got the Road to Vanderbilt either, haha!

Indiana. No book as of today.

DS received his book today.

DD doesn’t want to read it yet until closer to the end of summer … So I thought I would! It’s really good. There is so much symbolism and parallelism that I can see they will have lots to discuss in the fall. I don’t read many novels (too much time on CC!), so kicking back and getting engrossed in a book is refreshing and relaxing.

The structure strikes me as a bit… deceptive, perhaps? When I first saw that the chapters were separated into days, I thought it would have an extremely simplistic structure (new chapter, morning, noon, night, next chapter, repeat), but when I finally delved into the book, it became clear that it’s anything but. It’s not the most fragmented structure I’ve read (Beloved and House of the Spirits currently tie for that spot), but it’s still quite fragmented, switching between Esch and China, and interspersing memories, etc. It’s not my favorite book, but I hope that I’ll like it more as I get further.

I definitely liked it better as I got into it. And yes, a lot of interspersing of memories. I just started Day 7.

go2girl received it in the mail yesterday.

Finally came today.

Indiana.
