@AGoodFloridian hit the nail on the head!!! Apply, apply, apply!
@NoMyRealName Above and beyond any single metric (i.e. vet status, community college, etc.), the adcom IMO is looking for people whose experiences add to the campus. Keep in mind those groups you mentioned (the 13 vets and 13 no four year) are not mutually exclusive. Some of our vets had attended four-year schools before, and some had not. I know people in this transfer class who came from an Ivy, and another from a large east coast university, and a lot came from community college and a lot came from the military.
Also worthy of mention is that we were just talking the other day about how so many of us are low income. Financial Aid here is amazingly amazing. (And need blind for transfers - subtle shade thrown to Brown).
He’s been through it all, everyone here should follow his advice <3 I really appreciate you coming back here to help us out. You didn’t have to, but you do anyways. In these subtle ways it makes sense why Stanford chose you- they’re incredibly lucky to have you on their class pal.
2018 has been an amazing year for me. It seems like every month I’m blessed with great news. All of it is just reminding me how much I want to pay it forward. Wherever I end up, I’ll make the most of it- that’s the guarantee I can give :))
I remember how attached I was to CC this time last year. Anything I can do to help, and pay forward the help I got, I’m happy to provide. I still get chills thinking about the day I was accepted. I hope you get the same day soon!
Very close to submitting my app!
I think I had too much fun writing the “note to future roommate” essay. Took a risk with creative liberty, hopefully it lands well hahahah
I’m usually hyper-aware with my wording, afraid of what admissions could think, but I felt so much more at ease with Stanford’s essays. Maybe it was the “1% acceptance rate, screw it” mentality :)) I dunno.
@AGoodFloridian I feel you on the “1% acceptance rate, screw it” mentality. I feel like my essays for schools with reasonable acceptance rates were more serious and professional, whereas the Ivy and top-tier ones were more creative.
@AGoodFloridian I see you on every single forum I frequent, but this is the first time (besides JKC) I’ve said hi. Hope you’re doing well!
Just submitted my final apps (except for maybe NYU. Still debating whether or not to submit something). If anyone needs a last minute edit, I’m all eyes; I know how nerve wracking it is when you can’t find someone and it’s the last second.
The next couple of months will be a long, nervewrecking wait. But I wish the best of luck to all of us.
P.S. To get to know each other a bit better, what did you guys put for your 5 words?
I put: Precocious, queer, first-generation, Vietnamese vagabond.
Had a lot of fun coming up with it. Stanford’s prompts were actually super fun to write.
I submitted my HS/College transcripts during the beginning of this month, however, the portal shows they haven’t received them yet. Should I resend them? I called admissions a week ago and they said give it some time b/c maybe they haven’t sorted out all their mail. But it’s March 20 already.
I submitted the transcripts before March, but I waited for two days for the check marks to appear on March 17th. One transcript was received on March 9th and the other on March 13th. They most likely have it, just haven’t processed it.
IIRC, very few of my boxes were checked last year until they all checked one day. I’m sure they’re just playing catch-up.
@phxsc5 I don’t know an exact number, but I know it’s not something they’re actively counting. No one is getting accepted or rejected because they came from a four year or didn’t. It’s easier to have those extra experiences at the community college that adds that little something to your app, but it certainly doesn’t mean a four year student can’t add that same something, as seen by the multiple transfers from four-year schools that I know. Hope that helps.
@ahhhhhomg It won’t hurt you - I was admitted back in 2013. I had previously transferred from a CC (frosh yr) to a large state school for my 2nd yr. Couldn’t be happier in retrospect in choosing Stanford over my other options. This place really can open every door imaginable and the alumni network is unimaginable if you do your part in making friends and getting involved on campus.
