2018 UNC REGULAR DECISION APPLICATION THREAD

I called admissions about an hour ago and was told that they won’t be out today. Apparently they’re not finished

Not finished? : (

Oh noooo :((

Hi, I applied for UNC-CH regular decision because I wanted to take that first semester and improve my grades. Can anyone tell me my chances of getting into UNC-CH?
ACT Score: 34 Composite
SAT Subject Test: 740 in Chemistry and 800 in Math
GPA: there is a GPA calculation issue with wake county… its not offocial… but my guidance counselor calculated it to be a 4.14. But, on my transcript, I had a 3.95 weigted GPA
Teacher Recs: I am pretty sure they will be above average or really good. I also had a recommendation from a UNC professor who I interned with over summer. Does that help at all?
ECs: I had average to above average ECs on my resume and common app
Essays: I am pretty sure I had decent essays…
Reason why my GPA is so low: my GPA does not reflect my intellect. In 10th grade, I received horrible grades due to personal problems (family). But, I rebounded in 11th grade getting all B’s and 1A. Then in 12th grade 1st semester, I received All A’s and one B. So, I have been on an upward trend. Does UNC-CH take this into account at all?
Can anybody guess my chance of getting in? I applied to GA Tech Engineering school and got waitlisted… I also got waitlisted from NorthEastern… the surprising thing is that I got denied from NC State.

@teamtarheels: I’m afraid you might have some problems. I applied EA from Wake County as well. I had a similar situation: high ACT (36) with lower GPA (4.36 weighted) on an upward trend due to personal problems. My trend’s a bit similar to yours (mostly Bs 11th, all As and 1 B 12th). I was deferred EA and am anxiously waiting. Whether or not you get in will depend on your extracurriculars, essays, and most likely the quality of the applicant pool. If you’re an underrepresented minority/1st generation college student, you’re probably in.

so should we assume the decisions will be posted next friday…or do you guys think there is hope for another weekday?

I’m not really sure. I would assume Friday but I’m still going to check everyday

@illiriks
I am not an underrepresented minorty… atleast i dont think so… I am indian and I am not a first generation college student…
my ECs are average to above average… my recommendations are pretty good (i have a rec from a UNC professor, can you tell me if that has any advantage), and my essays are pretty strong?
Also, is this a way to think about it?
I got denied from NC State… does this mean I even have a chance at UNC-ch? or am i done? Because, NCSU did not require any essays nor recommendations nor do they consider SAT Subject test scores; and I am pretty strong in those 3 areas… and UNC looks at these 3…

@illiriks
and I got waitlisted from GA Tech engineering ( which is top 5 in country) and waitlisted from Northeastern… and i am out of state for both…
does this mean I have a chance for UNC-CH because I am instate? and can u think of a reason why I couldnt get in to NCSU then?

Teamtarheels: This is not a chance thread.

@birdsong1:
Hi. I am sorry! I am new to college confidential. Can you please give me a link to the chance thread?

So are we expecting it will be next Friday? I just want to know already! Patience, patience.

@lion0924, I think it will be next Friday! I’m nervous too :(

What makes everybody think it’s next friday??

@caseyjbauer UNC said by the end of March, and according to others on here, they tend to favor releasing decisions on Fridays.

Ahh ok, makes sense. About to be a crazy week. I have 1 decision tomorrow, 4 decisions on Thursday and 1 on Friday

@caseyjbauer good luck! I hope we all get into UNC…!

maybe we should all keep in mind that this year, the early action decisions came out on a thursday! who else thinks we could be hoping for this thursday? or would they not do it the same day as Ivy Day

The UNC admissions twitter account posted this morning that they are finishing up and on schedule for an end of March release. So my guess is anytime between Thursday and Saturday.

This thread feels so dead…and decisions are so soon! We should be excited! :slight_smile: who else is hoping to get into the J-School?
