I recently received an email from the Youth Leadership Consortium inviting me to apply for the Young Leader’s Summit. It says it accepts 200 low-income students and will be held at UChicago without any fees, even transportation. It says it’s partners with College Board, Wells Fargo, Jack Kent Cookie Foundation, American Indian College Fund, etc. so it seems legit and they aren’t asking for money… but I can’t find any info on the web.
I’ve tried googling them and nothing comes up and their website is blocked by my school.
They do ask for personal info on the application about income and stuff tho.
Has anyone gone to this program before or is it a scam?
I’ve always received the same email and found nothing about the program or if anyone else has attended. I’ll let you know if I do find something.
@Seventeencarat If there is no info to be found online, that should mark a HUGE RED FLAG. Don’t go UNLESS you can guarantee this program’s credibility. Personally, I have never heard of this before, but programs with these big flashy names like “Youth Leadership Consortium” or “National Youth Leadership Forum” all tend to be pay 2 play scam programs.
@Seventeencarat
Hi! I’m pretty sure I’m a bit late to the party, but anyway, this program is legitimate, and not a scam. The program is free, and if you request on your application, they will pay for travel cost. I actually got accepted into the summit this year and I can’t wait! Also, they have a youtube page with videos as well and if you check their website, they are a nonprofit. Hope this helps
@Seventeencarat Hey! I’m an applicant for YLS this summer and I had a few questions I was wondering you could help me out with your experience? Thanks!
Is this worth attending? What do you get out of it?
I applied this year and they haven’t released the decisions I think.
I also applied this year and didn’t get anything back. Decisions should come out end of April.
Can you send a link of their program? I applied this year, but I haven’t really found much information about the program. @PinkScholar12
Sure, @justwanttopass it’s https://ylc.hsfts.net/yls-application
Once you click there you can check out the FAQ’s too. I know it might seem too good to be true but it’s 100000% legitimate and everything is free, even the flight if your family can’t afford to purchase it.
My neighbor’s kid did this to add it as an EC.
It’s a bought-and-paid for program that doesn’t give you a big gain on the admissions thing.
I just got my acceptance to the YLS. Is this program actually legitimate?
I got in too, hope to see you there! It seems legit tbh because it’s soonsored by a lot of credible organizations- one being Uchicago. I think it’d be a good experience overall.
Hey guys! They just confirmed my wait-listed spots, but they haven’t told me anything about the flight info. Did you guys hear from them about that?
They called me and confirmed information and the lady asked about name, birthday, address, etc. I’m assuming it’s for the flight information. She said I’d arrive in Chicago and a bus will be waiting with other students but I haven’t gotten an official ticket yet. They’ll probably give out flight tickets closer to the date.
