2019-2020 USC Transfer

Hello,
When I copy and paste my essay into Common App, I can maintain the format but when I actually preview my entire application, my formatting gets destroyed and all my essay turns into one giant paragraph. Is it just me? How do I fix this formatting issue?

I know it’s diffrent for freshman applicants and transfer applicants, but most freshman received their notification regarding weather or not they’d be be considered for merit scholarships this week. Does anyone happen to know when transfers hear back regarding merit scholarships? Freshman applicants have their deadlines to be considered for these merit scholarships on DEC. 1 and Transfers have it on Feb. 1, so would we hear back 2 months later just like they do, or?

Good luck to everyone applying BTW!

Don’t worry this happened to me too! I was so frustrated @wanjunhing

Usually the best you can do is add spacing for paragraphs. This happens to everyone, they expect it. But adding a break can help.

Asking for a friend, is the app due tonight at 12 am? Or just tomorrow, February 1st, by 11:59 pm.

First of all, GOOD LUCK TO EVERYONE!!!

Second, my class schedule changed for the spring semester. I realized that my original chemistry class wouldn’t transfer to USC because it didn’t have a lab component so I switched to a bio class that had a lab component. However, I submitted my application before I changed my classes. Should I email my admissions counselor about this? I sent a new transcript with the updated spring courses to USC. I’m just worried and I know your completed Ged-Eds are a big factor in your acceptance/rejection.

11:59 eastern time

same thing here I emailed the common app. Now its a little late but there is no additional information tab.

@CADREAMIN when am I supposed to come across the additional section for writing something that I probably didn’t mention in my other essays portion?

@freethepuffles Yes, email them. They will catch it, but doesn’t hurt to email them to be sure.

Applications are due Feb 1st, 11:59 p.m at whatever time zone you’re in.

From USC Admissions:
Though the Common Application uses Eastern Time, please be assured that the University of Southern California will consider your application on time if it is submitted by 11:59 pm in the time zone where you currently reside.

Don’t worry. If you submitted your application by midnight, west coast/USC time – you met the deadline.

If you submit by 11:59 on Feb 1st, do not freak out if it shows submitted to USC at a later time. There is also a time that USC downloads sometimes posted which can cause confusion. If you submitted on time, you submitted on time! Relax!

A USC Admissions post (think Feb 1 instead of December 1)
If you live somewhere other than the east coast and submitted your application last night you may have discovered that the Common Application time stamps your application based on east coast time. So if you submitted your application yesterday, December 1 at 10:30 pm pacific time (“USC time”) Common App recorded that you submitted your application at 1:30 am…on December 2! This has generated a lot of late night emails and phone calls from panic stricken applicants and families.

@CADREAMIN Hey if I get off a waitlist for a class for my upcoming spring semester how if at all does this affect my application. It is not a requirement for my major but I am not sure if I should put this class on my planned classes for spring in my common app. Since I am on the waitlist I figured I would leave it off? I haven’t submitted my app yet so please let me know.

If not in it I would not include it. If you get in it, you can email your advisor that you added it. Decisions are a ways off, you may know in time. That way you don’t have to email you are not in the class if you don’t get in.

@bksyazd

Don’t worry about your choice of major. As a transfer, the admissions committee is very interested in your course prep (which sounds fine, by the way), but is also looking overall for fit, just like with freshmen. My understanding is that neither of the majors you mentioned is more competitive for admissions than the other, so I don’t think you’re undermining your chances by applying first choice to GB. I don’t know about priority for second choice majors. It seems to me that if you’re a good fit for USC, they will find a way to admit you, no matter what you put down as first or second choice.

Hey guys! Just submitted my application two days ago… Currently an NYU student. Best of luck to all

I know this is last minute, but for credit hours should I list the ones I have completed or all of the ones I am taking even during this semester?

In regards to experiences, how should I put activities that do not have payment such as student government? And does it jeopardize my chances if I do not allow the institution to have a contact?

I also have a failed internship. Should I put it here regardless? Please respond ASAP.

@StipendAwarded I listed student government as an extracurricular activity. The Common App asks whether the activity is volunteer time or compensated as well. So for me, student government is a compensated extracurricular activity.

USC finally received my college transcript today. They will have everything from me once my noncustodial parent fills out the CSS Profile on Sunday. Then it will be time to play the waiting game…

Just submitted mine - good luck y’all. How soon after submitting your common app did you all get access to the USC Portal?
