@CADREAMIN when am I supposed to come across the additional section for writing something that I probably didn’t mention in my other essays portion?
Did anyone see my comment above? I am looking for feedback.
@wohua I thought it was at the end of the CA application. Did that change? Maybe someone else can answer.
That’s what I was thinking, too. Thanks!
Just slightly worried because the first writing supplement said (Approximately 650 words) and mine turned out to be 688. I didn’t think it was a problem since it was way below the allowed character count and since the prompt said “Approximately 650.” However today I saw a comment from USC Admissions’ on their page said that it could be “under but not over 650 words.” I had no problem submitting my application even though I was at 688, so do you think I’m okay?
From what I’ve heard, the essays have to be exactly 650±5 words…
Does USC consider my second choice of major? I put my first major as chemical engineering and my second major as chemistry. Wondering if they’ll still consider me for my second major. (I posted my stats above). Chemical engineering is in Viterbi and chemistry is in Dornsife. Oh and I forgot to mention on my stat that I’ve completed the English requirement as well (College writing, Critical thinking&Analysis). Chance me please
@EELIZABETH13 My longer essay was 633 words, while my two short essays were 261 and 242 words. So I’m hoping that it will be fine. The Common App did say “approximately” as opposed to setting a hard limit. I guess we are at the mercy of the admission committee at this point.
@vousmeuerz Yes, USC will consider you for your second major if they cannot find a spot for you in your first choice. USC is weird to chance. I have seen plenty of people on here get rejected with perfect stats. It could have been their chosen courses, sub-par essays, or any number of things. Best bet is to remain positive. Some people swear that contacting your counselor when needed and making sure they know your name can help. As long as the contacts with them are professional and not overbearing.
@EELIZABETH13, click on “Check Status” on the Common Application website and download a copy of your application. I’m sure that you’re good as long as your 688-word-essay is displayed fully. Hope that helps!
Does anyone know if being in ROTC matters? Currently my son is in ROTC at a 4 year college, looking to transfer to USC as a sophomore, and submitted his app. Should he contact ROTC at this point or is that only helpful after he gets an admission?
@vousmeuerz You want us to chance you when you already have a 4.0? Lmao
@GotYa55 Why? Because I thought 4.0 didn’t guarantee the admission since I’m applying to the most competitive school in USC. I’ve seen tons of others with 4.0 GPA asking for chances on other threads(and here, in this thread as well). Plus, I was worried of my weak extracurricular activities. Idk why you’re reacting like that LOL
@vousmeuerz From my understanding from past years threads and conversations with counselors, extracurricular activities do not necessarily matter too much unless you are borderline academically. They put the most weight on your grades, course selection, and essays.
@GotYa55 What’s wrong with asking chances? I mean literally, there are so many ppl asking for chances despite having perfect stats. They might be nervous because 4.0 doesn’t mean that they’re gonna get in for sure.
They don’t work at USC so I’m not sure how their chancing will help.
Regardless of the fact that chancing won’t help, there still are a lot of people in this thread asking for their chances. Well, don’t chance them then. They weren’t forcing you to chance for them lmao
@GotYa55 you’ve already posted your stat in this thread asking for your chance and you have a 4.0 GPA. Ironic ??♀️
Guys then don’t chance them. It’s their free choice to post their stats and ask for chances. I didn’t apply to usc yet but I saw many people in the previous USC transfer threads asking for chances, and people had no problem chancing or advising to them. I don’t understand why you guys are laughing at others asking for chances. It’s nothing to be criticized and to be laughed at.
Just did and my entire essay was shown…yay! I assume that if they wanted no more than 650 words, they would have said so explicitly
