2019-2020 USC Transfer

@symonaidanasa yikes that makes me nervous. I have a 4.0 in engineering at cal poly but I’m not on TTP and am a freshman.

@DDHH2017 my daughter had a 3.98 GPA from the University of Rhode Island Honors College studying Thanatology (the study of death and dying). She was also a TA her second semester of her freshmen year, president of her sorority pledge class, got an award for most involved in her dorm, had a very inspiring essay, and amazing recommendations from the dean of her college and another professor- all of that probably helped. She got accepted to the Davis School of Gerontology. My son, who applied for Fall 2019, was offered the Trojan Transfer plan. He’s going to go to Northeastern in Boston and see what he thinks and how he does and then he’ll decide if he wants to even try to transfer. Not sure if he got the offer because of my daughter, or on his own merit. He’s got a really solid resume but applied to the Iovine and Young Academy and they only take 25 kids. He’s stoked about Northeastern though. He really loves that school and its co-op program.

@symonaidanasa nice!!

Does anyone know how USC would look at classes if I had taken the classes prior to getting my High School Equivalency Certificate and done poorly in them. I took two classes before I was even in high school and they are dropping my GPA.

Does anyone know if it’s recommended to send ACT/SAT? I have a 32 and did not send due to credit hours.

@nohrdragon If you have finished more than 30 college units, you do not need to send SAT/ACT scores. You SAT/ACT scores should be in your college transcript, but USC doesn’t consider it if you have more than 30 units. If not, you should send it.

This means if you have a good college record and 30+units, you could get into USC even with a 1300 in SAT. That’s why people suggest transfers to apply for junior if they did not do well in high school.

@symonaidanasa The transfer acceptance rate was 24% for 2018-2019. People get into Spring because there are no enough spots for Fall. It does not mean that they have fewer units or they are missing certain classes. It simply means that they are not as strong as the Fall admits.

@sagaciousforever 30 units by end of spring semester or by the time the application is due?

@Coopy1 By the end of Spring.

@sagaciousforever thank you, my daughter’s HS gpa and college gpa is very high but her SAT score is kind of low (1330) but she will have 39 units by end of spring semester and she is taking all very hard courses related to her major and she has a 4.0 gpa . She has already send her SAT score, I’m just hoping they overlook her score and go by her high school gpa and college gpa

@Coopy1 If your daughter’s high school GPA is a 3.7 or higher then she should be fine. A 4.0 for her first semester of college will be competitive in the application pool but I cannot guarantee you that she will be admitted.

Let me know how it goes when the decision comes out.

@sagaciousforever her HS gpa is 4.1 with lots of extra curriculum activity, hopefully she’ll get in, she applied last year when she was in high school and was rejected. Best of luck to her and to you

My daughter graduated HS early and went to a local 4 yr college because, at 16, she wasn’t ready to leave home. She will graduate with her AA this June. She had a 4.0 GPA until this past winter quarter, where biology brought her to a 3.9. She’s applied to 4 schools…has been accepted to 2 and is waiting on 2 (USC being one other them).

One of the school’s deadline for transfer applicants isn’t until April 1 and their decisions will be rolling through the end of June. Now I see that USC has a similar process. This is unfortunate, because the other two schools will require her decision on May 1, as well as a deposit. So, she plans to pay the deposit from her own money and if she finds later that she’s accepted to USC, she said she’s willing to lose the deposit. She knows what she wants. UGH! The waiting!!!

@Cyberfit May I ask which schools she has been accepted?

@Cyberfit I hope your daughter finds out the decision for USC before May 1st. For your information, the strongest applicants hear back at the end of April in most cases. The worst case scenario is just to lose the deposit, and I believe it is totally worth it.

She has a good shot at USC and best of luck!

^^^^It is not the strongest applicants that hear back first, often times it is by the school releasing their decisions at certain times. A 4.0 TTP applicant may have already heard, another 4.0 TTP applicant won’t hear till late April or May.

In actuality, the last person to get in as a transfer may be as strong as the first person that gets accepted as a transfer.

@Cyberfit Your D sounds extremely interesting and so young for such accomplishments! Congrats to her. I will pm you…

@CADREAMIN Have some TTP applicants already heard about their acceptance in recent days?

@CADREAMIN my daughter is a freshman in CCC she will have 39 units by end of spring semester her SAT is low(1330) but her HS and college gpa is very high, do you think they overlook her low score since her gpa is very good ? She is also involve in lots of activity

@Coopy1…Pace University and Chapman.

@sagaciousforever…and she’s putting her money where her mouth is. I love that!
Thanks for the kind words.
