@TheGoldenBoy not necessarily true, I didn’t have my writing requirement fulfilled when I transferred and while they may not focus on ec’s it definitely helps if you’re competing with another student with the same GPA.
Hi guys!
I originally posted on the wrong years for admission so if you see this twice that’s why lol.
I’m looking to transfer to USC for Fall 2019. I am currently attending a CC and (hopefully) will have a gpa of 3.9 by the time I would get to USC. I am applying for Annenberg as a communication major. I have an alumni (step) parent, and would have a few letter of recs from educated authority figures, one being a USC faculty member, and I am going to be involved in associated student government, communication studies club, and also volunteer for red cross and the local pet shelter before submitting my application. I would be going into my second year of college with 60 units, so I’d be going in as a junior. Anyone have any tips on anything else I can be doing to hype up my application? Any advice would be great. I want to be able to stand out as much as I can. Best of luck to everyone for the application process! Hope to see you all next year
Has anyone started on their USC app?
Hey everyone! I am freaking out about the college application process once again. Last time around part of my hair went grey (no lie.) This time around I am a sophomore at a 4 year Massachusetts private school. I currently have a 3.59 with a great positive trend. I am worried about the math requirement. I got stuck in the California integrated math system. Does anyone know if completing 3 years of math (101, 201 & 301) counts as having satisfied that requirement
Hey! @Ella1117
I hear you on the freaking out part i’m the same. If you check out USC’s articulation agreement, there’s a list on what math transfers over and what counts. Here’s the link for you:

Best of luck! Hope to see you next year
@woshua Yea I finished my USC app. Just gotta wait on my fall grades and my LORs and I’m gucci.
@TheGoldenBoy what are “LORs”?
Any sophomores trying to transfer this year?
@woshua Letters of Recommendation
Ah, now I see I see it lol. I’m getting one from my English professor and possibly my accounting professor.
Hey everyone! I’m hoping to transfer for fall 2019 to Viterbi CS.
HighSchool GPA: 3.65
College GPA: 3.5
Classes Done: Calc I/II/III, Differential Eqn, Linear Algebra, Discrete Math, Phys I/II/III, Chem I, Assembly Lang, Data Structure, C++ Programming I/II/III, Java Programming I, English I/II
EC: Run a popular computer science/tech blog with 10000 followers, have 3 apps on iPhone app store, active on Github, work 20+ hours a week as a math/physics/CS tutor, lead SI sessions at my college for physics, regularly attend hackathons, volunteer at church
Is my profile acceptable? Or is my GPA too low? I know my EC’s don’t cancel out my bad(?) GPA but hopefully they demonstrate that I am actually interested in computer science.
Good luck to everyone
@friesbeforeguys You have a good chance of getting in. Viterbi is tough to get in, but as long as you do good in the fall and spring and bump your GPA to a 3.6-3.7. I think you will have a good shot. Just make sure to write good essays lol
@friesbeforeguys I’m gonna keep it real so you don’t put too many eggs in one basket and end up with no other options. GPA is low for Viterbi. Math grades are super important, not just what is completed. And everyone coming into CS as a transfer is super interested/committed to CS - they know that. Your ECs are great, but EC’s mean way less than the GPA as a transfer and other students can bring that kind of thing in too with a higher gpa. There are many 4.0 transfers applicants (and regular app cycle) that are not accepted to Viterbi - just too many, so they can be super selective. So while there is a chance, be sure you apply broadly. If applying to UC’s be sure to include more than just UCLA and UCB. Not trying to discourage you in any way, it’s just that every year we see students that count on one school too strongly, and both CS and USC (and many other schools) are way to competitive to do that. So have a safety you would want to attend just incase - as a transfer, you don’t want to lose a year because you didn’t apply to the right/enough schools.
@CADREAMIN Would that be a good gpa for an Econ major trying to get into Dornslife?
@friesbeforeguys I highly agree with everything @CADREAMIN said. The first time I tried to transfer, I only applied to four schools. I went with USC, UCLA, UCB, and CSULB. I figured CSULB would be my safety, but they rejected me quite fast. I for some reason didn’t believe people when they told me that CSULB almost always rejects applicants that don’t complete the Golden Four courses - I really didn’t want to take a speech course. I was ultimately rejected from USC, UCB, and UCLA as well. I had a 4.0 when I applied. My first choice major for USC was Undecided/Dornsife, so it’s not like I was even going for a Viterbi major. Having nowhere to go, I made sure to broaden my horizons the next transfer cycle. I made sure to include more CSU’s such as CSUF and CSULA. I didn’t want a repeat of the previous year if my attempts to attend USC failed again. I managed to get in the second time around, but I had something like 100 units completed at my community college. I realize that’s not a route that all people would necessarily take, but it really was my own fault for not applying to enough schools and ending up with no school to transfer into. There’s always a chance but make sure to have backups. And backups for your backups. I’m often concerned for the people that are USC or bust. It’s admirable, but there are no sure things with USC.
I was wondering if someone could answer my question, please? So I’m gonna be trying to transfer to USC as a sophomore this year for economics. My question is: do I have to take and finish courseworks for my major (economics)? I checked and Econ majors need to take micro, macro and precalc, but I think I can only do micro and precalc. So that leaves me with macro. Will I still be able to transfer if I didn’t complete macroecon? On the transfer pamphlet, it says that only business, architecture, and dental hygiene majors need to complete their lower division courses in order for admission. So will this affect me? Please help!
@gotya55 - you are answering your own questions. If it says you have to have A, B, and C, and you don’t - it will affect your admissions because hundreds will have all of the requirements done on their application and yes, they will knock you out. USC tells transfers exactly what to do, those that don’t meet requirements are the first cut every time.
A good transfer gpa? 3.8 and up. Might some get in with lower? Sure, that is where demographics and them building the kind of class they want come into play. Some kids are applying from already tough 4 years, compared with other schools, so that may be factored in. Will 4.0’s get rejected? Yes, in every major, because there is way more supply of those kids than USC needs.
@CADREAMIN Oh thank you. Since I will not be able to complete my last pre req for economics, do you think I should apply as a sociology major and if I do get in switch to Econ? I believe sociology only has one pre req and that is intro to sociology which I am taking right now.
PM’d you.
Hello everybody! Do any of y’all know how common it is for peeps without LORs to transfer in?
