2019-2020 USC Transfer

^ :flushed: not til MAY?! :cold_sweat:

what am i gonna do with my life now lol

do you all think that there is a reason for it not being until may only this year? because that seems ridiculous and awful and doesn’t make any sense.

^^^ No it doesn’t make sense, but it will get people to quit calling in now and throughout April if they say that. Think about it. Wait for it…

i was wondering if you anyone could help me see if im looking at a straight rejection or a SGR. Applied to marshall for business (1st choice) and dornsife for econ (2nd choice). Im a current freshman at a cali cc so I applied as a sophomore applicant. I will have 52 units by the end of spring. A loooot of impressing extracurricular activities. Had both my letters of rec written by deans from the college. Finished all of my GE’s and requirements for marshall… but finished with a C in Calc. Currently taking 20 units this semester. Got an A in every other class ive ever taken. Am i looking at a rejection from both schools because of the C? Am i looking at a SGR? Also, is it possible to get admitted into dornsife if marshall rejects me right away?
thank you for your help!!!

Was ur calc class the pre req for marshall? @tommy9998

yes @woshua

@tommy9998 What business lower-division major classes have you completed? If you have an “A” in Business Stats, Financial Accounting, Microeconomics, Macroeconomics, and Managerial Accounting, that will compensate the “C” in Business Calculus.

However, Business Calculus is a very important class to Marshall applicants, so it is strongly recommended to get an “A”. An “A” in Business Calculus will significantly increase your chance of admission.

For major pre-reqs, I got a “B+” in Microeconomics, but all “A” in Financial Accounting, Business Calculus, and AP credit for Macroeconomics. So this still makes me a competitive applicant. I haven’t taken Managerial Accounting yet, but it is not a pre-req class so I can take it at USC if admitted.

But your “C” in Business Calculus will affect you and you will probably get an SGR if you strive in every other class. Most admitted Marshall transfer applicants have no grades less than a “B”.

I recommend you to only put your first choice major, as I only put first-choice major. Putting a second choice sometimes is not very wise, as Business and Economics differs a lot in the curriculum. Likewise, putting only your first choice will show that you are dedicated to that major. For UC schools it’s a different case, as they have too many applicants so you must put your second choice. But USC have more openings than UCs.

I’m applying to usc as a marshall applicant and took business calc and got a D. S i’m kinda in the same situation but I don’t think it should be a problem for u since u have a mostly As. But yeah ur business calc or calc 1 grade matters a lot. @tommy9998

@bksyazd That is not true. I have two friends who heard back in July last year. They are all rising junior applicants. You will most likely to get your decision in June or July if you get an SGR. SGR will significantly delay your admission.

Also, just in case if you are wondering, admission office tells you that you will hear back in May just to make sure no more other applicants are calling for the same question, as they are so busy right now.

It is true, however, you will almost for sure get an SGR, acceptance, or rejection by May 30th. It is odd that my friend got his acceptance in July with no SGR, but this is very rare.

@sagaciousforever thanks for your response. I received an A in macro econ and an A in managerial accounting (taking the class this semester, but im sure i will get an A). also received an A in the upper division english. I just hope to get spring graded. My gpa will increase significantly this semester considering i am taking 20 units.

@tommy9998 what cc do u go to

@tommy9998 I heard from my admission counselor that upper-division English must be taken at USC. Maybe I am wrong but I am almost certain. I did not even complete the first writing requirement because the English 101 (I took it) at my current four-year institution won’t transfer. But my admission counselor said it’s fine to take lower and upper writing (English) classes at USC, so I just took more GEs since both English classes are not available at my current school.

@tommy9998 What was the GPA when you apply to USC in February?

@sagaciousforever sorry i dont think i worded it corrently. i took the second english class you have to take. my ap lang covered english 101 and i took english 102 at cc.

@woshua pcc

@tommy9998 Not sure about the Marshall question, as I am not a Marshall admit. I would ASSUME that you’d have a higher chance of getting into your second choice major now because I do know that calc is a requirement. My boyfriend was a Marshall admit and he was on TTP, started at USC as of this Spring. They told him that he needs to do well in Calc 1 to hold his place (or I guess possible place) back in Fall of 2018. Not trying to scare you or make your wait more stressful, although I do know that hearing from others makes it a little less stressful so that’s why I’m replying, but I will say that it doesn’t mean you won’t get into the school at all. It sounds like you have a solid transcript other than that one class. I just know that Marshall can be VERY competitive. You have your second choice major. Don’t quote me on this though.

@tommy9998 I see. Then you should be fine. Let me know the result when it comes out!

@tommy9998 i go to pcc too lol

@sagaciousforever lol will do!
