2019 M&T Admitted Students: Stats

Hi Guys!

I was elated to be accepted to the M&T class of 2019. When I applied, I looked for a place where I could get the stats of current students to inspire me and get a sense of where I was. I encourage all the accepted M&T 2019 students to post their stats here! I think good things to include would be high school (or type and location), test scores, GPA, # of APs, extracurriculars, awards, other admitted schools. And anything else you think is useful sharing!

So here’s me:

Nationality: White, Male
Background: New York, Private School
Socioeconomic status: middle class
Connections: None
SAT: 2360 (CR: 800, M: 770, W: 790)
SAT II’s: Math II - 800, Physics - 800
GPA: 4.0 (Took hardest classes I could)

of APs: 7 (no biology or physics C)

Extracurriculars:
Amateur Sailing and Fencing
Model UN (founded and lead my team)
Mock Trial
School Paper (editor in chief)
Theatre (All 4 years, lead parts)
Business background: None (never took Econ)
Engineering background: CMU AP/EA program

Other schools: Olin college, Carnegie Mellon SCS, Dartmouth, Cornell, Brown, Harvey Mudd, Pomona, University of Michigan.

Why I think I got in: the essays. I honestly think I am not that competitive of a candidate seeing that I have no awards/companies or other outrageous stuff. I put my heart and soul into those essays, and I got my college counselor and English teachers to read over them a billion times. Really, it’s one of, if not THE most, the most important piece, in my opinion. I confirmed that with the M&T admissions officers.

Really, you don’t need to be a freak of nature to get in, so please stop trying to be. You need to be real… You need to do what you’re doing because you’re leading your life, not somebody else or some passed-down conception of what success is. Why do you want to take one of 50 spots at one of the world’s most amazing program? Because of “prestige?” Because you think it will make you rich and “successful?” Or because you want to be the greatest service you can be to the world that’s honoring you with this amazing opportunity? If you make it clear that it’s the latter, they’ll be dying to have you there. I made it clear in my essay how I learned the value of improving the way things are in the community I’m in by starting Model UN and revamping my school newspaper. I tied that into my passion for entrepreneurialism. Just be real. Ask yourself why you really do the things you do, and share.

Best of luck finding where you belong!
