2019 minimum Eligibility Index for California "Non-Local" applicants to CSUs based on SATs

I was looking to put together a table of minimum current (2019) Eligibility Index for California “Non-Local” applicants to CSUs based on SATs and GPAs, but found it difficult to get accurate and updated info. Here’s the schools I found, the EI or range (followed by whether it was based on a minimum or average, the year the info was obtained in parentheses, and the source of the info:

SJSU
2950-4450 minimum
(2019)
http://www.sjsu.edu/admissions/impaction/impactionresultsfreshmen/index.html

CSUN
3800 minimum
(2019)
https://www.csun.edu/admissions-records/freshman-impaction#index

CSU Fresno
3500-4200 minimum
(2019)
http://fresnostate.edu/studentaffairs/are/futurestudent/freshmen/freshmen-selection.html

CSU Fullerton
4100 minimum
(2019)
(Tour guide’s statement on a campus visit in May 2019, which was based on what he was told to say by the admissions office. He did say a 4090 would probably be close enough)

Cal Poly Pomona
3701 average
(Old Info from slide 5 of a 2016 presentation)
https://www2.calstate.edu/attend/counselor-resources/counselor-conferences/documents/2017_Campus_Presentations/Pomona.pdf

Please feel free to add schools to this list. I’m especially looking for California “Non-Local” EI’s based on SATs for the following schools: (SDSU, Cal Poly SLO, Cal Poly Pomona for 2019, Sac State, San Francisco State, Chico, Channel Islands, CSU Long Beach, and CSU Monterey Bay). My D is applying for either for Biology or Animal Science for Fall 2020

You can look up local vs non-local admit GPA’s and SAT scores for CSULB including specific majors using the following links:

http://talk.qa.collegeconfidential.com/california-state-university-general/2150136-csus-that-publish-past-admission-thresholds.html lists CSUs that publish past thresholds.

CSUFresno: http://fresnostate.edu/studentaffairs/are/futurestudent/freshmen/freshmen-selection.html
CSUMB: https://csumb.edu/admissions/impaction
CSUN: https://www.csun.edu/admissions-records/impaction
SDSU: https://admissions.sdsu.edu/transfers/apply/gpa_requirements (transfer college GPA only, no information for frosh)
SJSU: http://www.sjsu.edu/admissions/impaction/

According to https://www2.calstate.edu/apply/freshman/documents/csulocaladmission-serviceareas.pdf , the following are not impacted for frosh admissions, so they will admit California residents at 2950 for non-impacted majors, but may have higher thresholds for impacted majors or those with special requirements: CSUB, CSUCI, CSUDH, CMA, SFSU, CSUStan.

@Gumbymom Thanks! I updated the list with the info in the links you sent for all majors in 2018:

SJSU

SDSU SAT EI average of 4408 and ACT EI average 1056 for 2018. Does not differentiate between local or non-local unfortunately. Up until recently last 2 years, local applicants did not have priority.
https://admissions.sdsu.edu/about_sdsu/fast_facts

Highest threshold at SJSU for 2019 was 4675 (computer science major), according to the page linked above.

Chico doesn’t publish it anywhere but, their threshold for most majors is around 3700

@ucbalumnus Good catch! 4675 in insane! I think majoring in computer science or engineering at SJSU is a great way to get a job at a Silicon Valley employer, but if you need a 4.0 AND a minimum of 1475 on the SAT then this plan won’t work for many. Also, thanks for the info on the other schools. I updated the list below and sorted from easiest to most difficult based on the highest EI.

@Gumbymom Thanks for the link! Wow! 4408 for SDSU is just insane! My D wants to apply there, but her EI is only 3934 (3.53 CSU GPA & 1110 SAT). I understand that these EIs can fluctuate by about 200 points, but being 474 below the average is sobering.

SFSU is a non-impacted campus, so the admission threshold is 2950, except for impacted majors listed at http://future.sfsu.edu/impaction which may have higher thresholds.

CMA is a non-impacted campus, but only business and global studies are non-impacted majors with admission thresholds of 2950; other majors’ impaction is described at https://www.csum.edu/web/admissions/future-impaction .

@ucbalumnus Thanks! I updated the list with it below. Do you have any feel for the current EI at SFSU and Sac State for California non-local Biology majors? Also, is an Alameda County resident local for SFSU?

2019 Average CSU GPA/ACT and SAT scores by campus are now available. 2 examples below:

For Cal Poly Pomona, the CSU Average GPA is 3.83 and SAT 1225 so the average EI would be 4289 (again not specific for local or non- local)

SDSU average EI is now 4459 (CSU GPA 3.97 and SAT 1283)

SFSU is an non-impacted CSU so all of California is considered their local admission area.

https://www2.calstate.edu/apply/freshman/Documents/CSULocalAdmission-ServiceAreas.pdf

Information for Sac State where you can search GPA/SAT by College and Major:
https://www.csus.edu/president/institutional-research-effectiveness-planning/dashboards/admissions.html

@Gumbymom Thanks for that Sac State link.
https://www.csus.edu/president/institutional-research-effectiveness-planning/dashboards/admissions.html

I see that 570 of the Biology majors were below an SAT EI of 3500, but only 304 people were not admitted. So, it looks like some were admitted below a 3500, although I guess these may have been “local”. I think my “non-local” D should get in with an SAT EI of 3934.

@Gumbymom That is an extremely helpful chart!
https://www2.calstate.edu/attend/counselor-resources/Documents/freshmen-2019-admission-impaction-chart.pdf

Are the average GPAs for accepted students or those that enrolled? I think it might be enrolled, because it states that the GPA for CSULB is a 3.5, but the earlier links you sent on CSULB show the accepted GPA had been rising over the last 5 years from 3.8 to 3.9

SDSU’s data is for admitted students which they plainly state on their website.

I found CSULB’s data on the low side based on the links provided so maybe they did not update their data for 2019? The data looks the same as last years . CPP and SDSU are definitely updated and higher.

@Gumbymom I’m thinking that the 3.5 for CSULB may be a typo. It seems like it should be around 3.9 based on the other info

There were 2 typos on last years chart so definitely possible.
