Congrats and good luck with the full tuition awards. FWIW, my D’s resume (for stats, AP classes at least) was virtually identical to yours 6 years ago when she got the DHS. That is all there was back then, the Paul Tulane Award just started a couple of years ago. Obviously things change every year, but thought it was worth noting.

I’m really starting to panic. I applied way back in September with a 92 gpa and 1990 SAT but just recently sent in my 2060 SAT from November. I have corresponded emails with my rep explaining my serious interest and he never mentioned anything about putting a note on my app about that. I know there’s still but I can’t help feeling very worried. Been checking Gibson everyday and still says its awaiting review :-S

Panic won’t help anything at all. I know the anxiety levels are off the charts for many of you, but try meditation, running, losing yourself in a Homeland marathon… anything except worrying about something you cannot affect at this point. You will all get into fine schools and have great college careers. I can say this with virtual certainty, having seen this for at least 6 admissions cycles now. Deep breaths…

I am waiting, personally. I want to watch the whole season at once (more or less). Of course I will have to watch the last 1 or 2 episodes from the prior season to get back into the flow.

No, not in the sense that if you have the resume to get accepted in October (had they reviewed your application then) you are just as likely to get in now. Even if you didn’t apply until November. Get what I mean? The randomness of when they happen to get to your application won’t affect your chances. Qualified is qualified.

Now if the reason you have not heard back yet is that they looked at your application but they are not sure about you, then yes, quite honestly I would have to say that means you are more likely to be deferred. But since we cannot know if they simply have not reviewed your application yet or if they have and put it to the side for now, I don’t see how one can conclude anything from the closeness to the deadline. As was mentioned earlier, a lot of students got their acceptance notification between Dec 8 and 15 last year. A lot also got deferred. I am sure some got denied, but we rarely hear from them.

Bottom line, you cannot draw any conclusions from the fact that it is getting closer to the deadline.

ACCEPTED TODAY!!!
SCEA - applied early Sept, from PA
4.21 weighted gpa 1930 SAT
Tulane is my #1 choice!!! so happy
Hoping to receive significant merit money
Congrats to everyone accepted!!!

Thought I had posted this earlier but apparently not:

Daughter was accepted on 11/30/14 into Honors with a 32k award. She has a 33 ACT and very good ECs and recs. I mean she is VERY well-liked by faculty. She also plays a musical instrument that is always in high demand.

She is ED to an Ivy, but if that misses, then I think she may accept this offer. She REALLY liked the Tulane reps that visited her school and the presentation they gave, and loves spicy cajun food (and beignets lol). And she did research the school fairly extensively, apparently.

I myself am still in the learning mode - I was only dimly aware that she even applied to Tulane - and am wondering what attracts people to Tulane?

Hello guys! I’m an international student from Vietnam and I just got accepted today! So so excited. But I haven’t heard anything about financial aid and scholarship yet. I applied for the Global Scholarship and without financial aid and scholarship I cannot attend Tulane Do you guys know when will they notice students about their scholarship? Thank you.

@Jimkingwood - I don’t know what attracted your D but I can tell you that my budding epidemiologist was attracted to the public health/tropical medicine school and the fact that undergrads have access to it (can major in it, actually). There aren’t too many colleges with that specialty available to undergrads.

For those of you still waiting, one reason for the delay MIGHT be that Tulane admission officials want to get your first-quarter grades from your high school. I’ve only worked in one admission office so I can’t speak for Tulane’s … or for any others … but when I was at Smith College (many moons ago) and we evaluated Early Decision candidates, some were clearly admissible based on their performance through the end of junior year; others were clearly inadmissible. But, for the majority of ED candidates, we wanted to see some senior grades before handing down a verdict. In particular, if the student had had an atypically shaky junior year or if the junior classes were a bit fluffy but the senior ones looked rigorous, that first senior report card could play a starring role in the candidate’s outcome.

Many high schools routinely sent us the first-quarter grades as soon as they became available, but–in other cases–we had to chase down guidance counselors by phone. And some schools with trimester systems or other atypical calendars posted senior grades very late.

This is just a guess, but for some of you who are wondering why a friend, classmate, or other student from your region has heard from Tulane and you haven’t, it MIGHT be because Tulane is tracking down your grades. This could mean that you’re a borderline candidate for admission so the Tulane folks want to see how you’ve fared so far this fall, but it could also mean that you’re a very STRONG candidate and that top-notch senior grades will translate into a bigger merit award or an honors program bid, which is why Tulane wants this information before giving you your decision.

Thus, if you’re getting anxious about hearing from Tulane, you may want to check with your school guidance counselor to see if your senior grades have been sent out and, if not, you should ask if Tulane has requested them (and, if so, did the counselor comply?) If you had a great first quarter and your grades were NOT sent to Tulane yet (or to any other school to which you’ve applied) be sure to urge your counselor to do so pronto.

If this theory of mine is correct, the fact that some of you don’t have verdicts yet even if you applied long ago could actually be good news and not bad, if your senior year got off to a super start.

Good luck to everyone who hasn’t heard yet.
