From what I have observed in the past, the deferrals pretty much come all at once (more or less) near the Dec 15 deadline.

But to be clear, a lot of acceptances still come in those last days as well.

@classof2015WHS I’m from NJ. thanks for the reply!

Just received my acceptance letter today and I got 30K/year merit aid (Premier Scholar) Not enough since I need at least 53K :(

@leo125

I think maybe you don’t understand the steps in this process. This is just step one. The most you could possibly have gotten at this stage was $32K. There are two more potential sources of money, at least. And that’s not counting ROTC, which of course is always a possibility. But that aside, there are three more potential scholarships that require a separate application. The DHS and PTA are full tuition scholarships. Those applications are due by Dec 15, so you really need to get started on those if you intend to apply for them. There is also the Community Service Scholarship, worth $20,000 which can be added on to your $30K up to the value of tuition plus fees (probably around $48-49K this coming school year). That application is due January 15.

The other avenue is need based aid, for which you have to submit FAFSA and CSS forms by February 15. Tulane determines what your family should be able to contribute themselves (EFC) based on those forms, and then fills in the gap with some combination of grants (which you don’t pay back), loans, and work-study. In some cases they meet 100% of need this way, in others they don’t. The average is about 95% of need met, last I checked.

@fallenchemist, so one should apply for the DHS and PTA full tuition scholarships by Dec. 15, even if they have not received an acceptance notification? This especially applies to those who submitted applications up through the extended Dec. 3 EA date, and may not hear until Dec. 15.

@NJProParent - Yes, definitely. The only requirement is that you applied EA/SCEA, not that you were accepted that way or heard by Dec. 15. Especially in light of this new deadline for some students, they may not hear until the end of the year, but they will still be EA and they still need to apply for the DHS and/or PTA by Dec. 15 unless Tulane announces otherwise, which to my knowledge they have not.

I applied November 14th and was accepted Monday night.

Accepted to University of Portland with $21000 in merit/year

I really wasn’t expecting to be accepted, so I’m really happy that I was. I’m hoping that I get some merit from them, and then I’ll apply for the community service scholarship in January. I don’t think I had a good enough shot at the two full tuition scholarships, especially since I haven’t started them yet.

Good luck to everyone still waiting!

@remytreat - Congrats and good luck. You should see some merit money from Tulane I think. Probably a little more than Portland gave you is my guess. Let us know.

Have been awarded $20,000 per year through automatically considered scholarships at Tulane. I attend a Public High school in an urban area of Texas.

What was your status before that???

Having trouble checking application status. It says “Application Status Portlet is temporarily unavailable” Anyone else having trouble?

^^^^ Same problem here.

My S applied about 4 weeks ago, his app status went to complete today and then to admitted. I’ve come to realize all the information people post in these threads is overkill, here are the basics:

gpa: 3.25uw, five APs, school does not rank
sat: 2140
school: strong public
strong essay
ECs - seven or so, nothing crazy

we weren’t sure if his gpa was gonna play, it will be interesting to see if he gets merit. He’s excited to visit.

applied november 15 (so on the deadline night) and application went to completed two days later. Sent in teacher recs two weeks ago and Tulane received them.
then tonight on gibson when i clicked applicant it took a while to load and then said “application status portal temporarily unavailable” for like 30-45 minutes, which I thought meant they are updating my status !! sadly afterwards it just went back to being completed, awaiting review.
do you think i’ll get a decision soon? will i have to wait til the 15th?

Probably not the 15th, but maybe the 13th or 14th. But could be the 15th. It is, after all, the deadline.

[]Where else you are applying or have already applied: Accepted to University of Alabama (full tuition & $2,500/year engineering scholarship), CO School of Mines, Missouri S&T ($13,000/year), and Iowa State ($8,000/year). Applied to and waiting to hear from University of Dayton, Syracuse, UB - SUNY, and University of Delaware.
[]General Comments/Advice/Hindsight: My app was complete Nov. 12, so it has been more than 3 weeks before I got my acceptance today. For those who have not heard back yet but feel strong about their application, don’t worry!

@fallenchemist
obviously you don’t know for sure, but do you think there’s not really any chance i can hear any earlier than the 13th? Aw

Oh sure, there is a chance. But at this point, come on. Does it really make that much difference if you hear back on the 11th or the 15th? I really do get the anxiety, but it is what it is at this point. Which is a fairly short wait of 11 days or less.

Applied around the 25th of October. I have a 3.22 GPA and a 33 composite.
National Ap scholar with honor
taking 3 aps this year
had a 3.87 gpa this first quarter and i sent that in and got my response shortly after… that may help those of you who are also on the edge
Waiting for merit… if its based on test scores I think I have a chance… not really expecting anything but it would be nice!! I checked everyday from November 3rd to Yesterday and it was posted at around 12! Very excited!
