2019 Tulane EA/SCEA Decision Thread

@fallenchemist‌ do international students typically get decisions later?

@Ruggy7‌

Not to the best of my knowledge. Certainly the paper letter might take longer, but as far as I know their decisions are made on the same basis as US citizens/residents.

There have definitely been several decisions in GA.

@kaileemet Did you apply to any school ED? Tulane may think you applied as a safety and they don’t like that! If you are truly serious about Tulane you need to make that known either by directly contacting your admissions rep (perhaps with great first quarter grades, or a new award that you have received) or have an administrator at your school contact Tulane on your behalf. I suspect that doing nothing would not be the best approach.

Has anyone from SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA heard back yet?!?!

@DebmomNY I applied to Rice ED, but until next Monday, it’s a real nail-biter whether or not I’ll get in- my scores are above the 75th percentile, while my GPA is below the 25th. I’m going to contact Tulane following my decision from Rice, so that I can honestly say that I have no obligations to other schools (if I am rejected).

Accepted! I don’t know when exactly it happened because I only checked today by chance, but I’m so excited!
Stats
ACT 31
Oregon, suburbanish public school
Tons of ECs; NHS board position, sports, key club, music, etc.
GPA: 3.96 UW
Class Rank: Top 5%

fallenchemist – re post 508, thank you for following up and thats really interesting information! If this was a week or two ago I think we could get a lot of people debating exactly what that means, but know it seems like everyone is simply focused on “where’s my decision???” I don’t blame them. If I get some time, I may try to look at the concordance between the ACT scores range and the SAT scores range. I wonder whether the lower “bottom end” of the end SAT scores has to do with some of the “guaranteed enrollment” program for certain Louisiana residents or some other programs (sports scholarships, etc.), but I would think that would affect both ACT and SAT similarly. Do more people in Louisiana take the SAT than ACT?

Anyways, many thanks again … you are indeed the saint of this message board!

Accepted in Washington state! How do we know if we have gotten and scholarship money?

@seattle2015‌

You won’t find out about merit scholarships until you get the paper letter.

@RMKA2013‌

The ACT is dominant in Louisiana <a href=“Where the SAT and ACT Dominate - Graphic - NYTimes.com”>Where the SAT and ACT Dominate - Graphic - NYTimes.com;

Why you think you were accepted: My GPA isn’t as high as some, and my test scores were in the midrange but not exceptionally high for Tulane. I committed to my EC’s and I just really showed myself in my essays, you really really can’t underestimate the importance of this.
Where else you are applying or have already applied: University of Wisconsin, University of Washington, Fordham, Drexel, Northeastern, University of Oregon, might throw in a few more but I’m pretty happy with my list!

Answered “why Tulane”
Submitted Studio Art supplement

Congrats to the Washington state admits! No word on my app yet. Starting to think it’s a deferral … :((
Question for fallenchemist: at this stage in the process, is it mostly deferrals?

@Homer101 not fallenchemist, but i think only around a third of the EA applicants are accepted early action, so it was always mostly deferrals.

It sounds like from previous comments, though, that there are still plenty of acceptances all the way up to December 15. So don’t get too stressed yet @Homer101 there is still time!

really nervous to hear back from tulane! i’m an international applicant from hong kong so going to NOLA will be completely different compared to what i’m used to. been following this thread a lot though and i’m glad to hear that so many have already heard the good news! :)

Yes, since Tulane waits until the last week to send out most deferrals, combined with the fact that Tulane’s overall acceptance rate is about 27% (not sure about EA but 1/3 or so seems reasonable), then of course this week will be mostly deferrals and denials. But I still emphasize there are a lot of acceptances as well.
