NicoleMMM – re: SATs, maybe not as low as you think … see fallenchemist’s post no. 507. And college is a fresh start; if you’re in, your in. When the prof hands back the first exam or paper and its a D+, saying “but I got a 2300 on my SAT” probably wont be an adequate explanation (smile).

@GMTplus7 It seems like there is a slight concordance, but nothing too strong. It may be based on a lot of subjective factors as well…

It does seem pretty subjective, especially with some of the recent deferrals. My dd didn’t send any recs (they weren’t required) and looking at the applicant pool here, I think she didn’t put as much effort into the app as she should have (Tulane was a safety).

Tulane’s strategy is working on her, though, and the early decision and $ has made her go back and look for reasons to attend. (For example, she specifically didn’t want a “southern” school, which is why she wasn’t that excited to begin with - grew up in the South - but the geographic diversity is pretty impressive.) I also think that we are in an underrepresented geographic region.

GMTplus7 did put in the work on those lists! But for merit awards, UW GPA is also a factor, so that might explain some of the “uncorrelated” results. Plus I am sure there are, in fact, some other factors, although I do think stats dominate the decision.

@GMTPlus7, my D got a “distinguished” scholarship (27K/year) and she had a 30 ACT.

My account still says “we have received all your materials your decision is awaiting review” nothin has changed for around 2.5 months. I’m like 99% sure this means deffered. Ugh.

I got deferred today. My status never changed to “your application is being reviewed” it just said “will be reviewed” the whole time.
