2019 Tulane EA/SCEA Decision Thread

Mine is still “complete and awaiting review”… :((

My D’s is still waiting as well. With three days to go and the weekend starting later today I wonder what that means for these students. It seems as though the acceptances came first, the deferrals came second so I really am wondering if the last wave is the no’s. I’m sorry if I am being pessimistic and I don’t want any student on here to not be optimistic but you have to wonder.

We shall see, but historically there have been VERY few denials at this stage, at least among the CC crowd.

@homer101 Thanks so much! It means a lot :slight_smile: I hope you get in RD as well! Best of luck!

Are people still getting acceptances regular EA? or just deferrals and rejections?

@Ruggy7 Did yours always say “… your application is complete and awaiting review …”? Because mine changed to “decision pending review” the day before I was deferred …

@bengalmombengal There’s still a chance. There were some acceptances today after all those deferrals yesterday. I hope it works out for your daughter. Also, given your daughter’s accomplishments, I can’t imagine an outright denial. I think its either an acceptance or a deferral because she’s so qualified she’s likely to go somewhere else. Did she show lots of interest? I was in a similar boat, showed tons of interest … and still got deferred … ugh.

Got an acceptance this morning…

I also got at acceptance this morning…
29 ACT
1410/1600 SAT

Totally thought i would get a deferral since everyone on here said most of the acceptances had already been sent out. There is hope!

I answered the Why Tulane essay.

@Homer101‌ mine never changed to that. It just said “complete and awaiting review”. I checked it like 5 times this morning up until it changed to deferred.

@ctesiphon @sarinner Thanks for the replies! I got a letter yesterday saying I was deferred, however I did not write the “why tulane?” essay or visit or anything so maybe that is the issue. Hoping I get in for regular decision though!

I still haven’t gotten a decision. It says “awaiting review” on the portal. Does anyone know if gibson will be posting further decisions tonight or do you think I will hear tomorrow. maybe @fallenchemist knows?

Schools are keen to manage their yield. While not everyone can afford to travel to visit a school, there is no incremental cost to write a supplementary essay. An applicant who can’t be bothered to articulate why he/she wants to go to the school seems like an obvious poor yield risk.

If I applied early action and got deferred to regular decision, is it still possible to get the merit scholarships such as presidential, premier, distinguished, etc. awards. Or is that out of the question now? Also do I have to reapply for regular decision if I got deferred or does my EA application automatically get put into the RD pool. Sorry for all the questions I’m just so confused.

@gmtplus7 thanks!

@biomed1‌

Yes, you can still get those merit scholarships.

You do not have to reapply.

You should research Tulane a lot more and then write your admissions person as to why you want to be admitted. @GMTplus7 is exactly right. Among all those thousands of qualified applicants, if you were the admissions person who would you pay more attention to? Someone that took the time to articulate their reasons for wanting to attend or someone that, for all they know, thinks that they should get into Tulane easily as a backup in case they don’t get into one of a half dozen other schools, and so ignores the question? I don’t mean that in a harsh way, just as a dose of reality as to how this process works. Not just at Tulane, but at many schools that ask similar questions of their applicants.

Forget about yield (although not saying that isn’t a factor). Admissions departments are both savvy and idealistic at the same time. They really do want students to attend that really want to be there. In this crazy process of college admissions, most students have more than one choice of school to attend, but at the same time admissions departments at schools like Tulane have far more students wanting to get in than there are spaces available.

@beachgirl18‌

I am guessing they are done for tonight. No doubt there will be more decisions over the weekend and on Monday.
