@dyingseal Yes! I think that might be a good idea. I tried emailing them as well. I’m not sure if they’ll be responding to their emails over the weekend? But, of course it’s worth the shot.

Well good luck!

@Fergus3 did you get the letter before the decision was posted on Gibson?

@Minime9 No, my Gibson decision was posted a week ago today. I got my letter in the mail yesterday

@Fergus3 where was it posted on Gibson?

Thanks @jmek15, and congrats to your D too! Did your D get some good merit? Hope so!

For those of you like @Mimime9 wondering how to find out your status, in Gibson at the top in the blue box where it says your application is complete and awaiting review (or something to that effect) - that will change to either tell you that you have been accepted or deferred or denied (hope there is very little of the last!)

Hey guys I’m pretty confused. I applied EA and got deferred. I have a 95 GPA, a 2230 (R:720 M:790 W:720) on the SAT, a pretty good essay, and an activity list full of clubs and community service etc. Not sure why I didn’t get in. Any thoughts?

defered. ugh. anything i should do ti make myself more competitive in rd?

@ljp469 Those are some fantastic stats, I’m sorry. It must be frustrating. There are others more expert here than me but from what I have gathered visiting the school and showing interest really maters for them to know that you aren’t using them as a fall back school if something better doesn’t come along. Again, I’m sorry. I’m sure you’ll get into a great school and have a super experience.

I was accepted last Tuesday, December 2nd and also received the “you should’ve received you’re official letter in the mail” e-mail three days ago however, I have yet to receive the formal letter with merit aid.

@ljp469 If you read through this thread you will see that you are certainly not alone. They might have seen your high scores and thought you were using Tulane as a safety. Did you write the “Why Tulane?” essay and show interest by visiting or attending a local meeting with your admissions rep? Did you apply ED at another school? If Tulane is still high on your list, follow the advise of the Admissions Blog by Jeff, it is referenced previously.

@DebmomNY I haven’t applied anywhere ED. Also, I did spend a lot of time writing my “Why Tulane” essay. However, I haven’t had the time to plan an actual visit to the school. Do you really think that could’ve been the deal breaker for me? I appreciate the feedback.

@ljp469

Tulane certainly doesn’t expect everyone to be able to visit the school, but they really do like to see some sign of genuine interest like attending a local session or communicating with your Tulane admissions person. Especially from high stat students who are most likely applying to a lot of Tulane’s peer schools and those that are even more selective. Which, in the vernacular, implies that Tulane is being used as a safety, and no highly selective school wants to make their admission stats look worse by taking students that are highly unlikely to attend. That’s just the real world. If you look back you will see there are students that got admitted with numbers similar to yours. One can only assume they went the extra mile in showing interest and convincing Tulane that it was genuine. There are a couple of exceptions where high stat students that seem to have showed very strong interest still got deferred, and I cannot say why that happened to them. But then again, as I always say, I cannot see their entire folder. It could be because of something totally unrelated to what we are talking about now.

In any case, for those of you that got deferred and are asking about how to proceed, I will repost Jeff Schiffman’s blog entry about this. As April 1 gets closer and if it becomes (even more) true that Tulane is a school you really want to attend, then you have to make this clear and convincing to admissions.

Congrats to everyone who got in and best of luck to everyone still waiting to hear!

I think its true there are things in the applicants file that we all can’t see. I imagine my D got deferred because she has a year of college under her belt by taking dual enrollment classes not counting the AP credits so she at a state university will be at least a sophomore by class standing. If I were an admissions officer seeing that, knowing she wants to major in engineering and seeing that she is a dual enrollment student at a leading state engineering school who needs money she would be a question mark since she probably has a good shot of gaining acceptance to the school she is dual enrolled at. I’m sure I could come with some other red herrings. In any event to those who have been deferred you will find a home whether it is Tulane or elsewhere. There are so many great choices out there. Best wishes!

Got accepted with 27000$ of scholarship each year…
I used separate application and did not expect scholarship also though. I am so glad.
