I also hope I do not come across as entitled, but my stats are not too high for Tulane to be “overqualified”. I am just disappointed and stressed that my first college letter is a deferral… a school that was supposedly a “match/somewhat safety”.

I checked Gibson on Friday. And possibly, but I doubt I’ll get any aid, and I didn’t apply for scholarships.

Have any of the deferred applicants received any other correspondence from Tulane? Someone mentioned something about an “affiliated” school? This seems unusual and wondered if perchance anyone received such a correspondence?

Very happy for my son - admitted with a 22 or 24K (I forget which) scholarship. Not his first choice, but definitely brings it to the top of the list. Does anyone know if they ever increase the scholarship (if you ask?)

You can always ask, but you’d best be well-prepared. See if he gets more $ at a similar school and ask them to match. Stay positive throughout the conversation, even if they say no. Personally, I’d only take this course of action if my S was prepared to go if they agreed to match.

luck!

@jazz-shreddermon

Very rarely. It would require some significant change in his GPA, which is obviously hard to do at this point in his high school career, or his SAT/ACT score which is more possible, if he decided to take it again. I mean, all they can say is no, but without some reason to think it should be increased based on performance, I have trouble recommending taking up their time and putting them in the position of having to say no if there is no compelling reason presented.

However, if you are applying for need based aid, don’t forget that some of that package can be grants, it isn’t always just loans.

What time today will the acceptances and deferrals be sent out?? My application’s status has not changed since I applied Nov 15th.

[]Weaknesses: The fact that I didn’t send in letters of rec, playing down my volunteer work
[]Why you think you were accepted/deferred/rejected: Honestly… I’m worried that it’s about the caliber of my art, but it’s more likely because of the letters of rec, the fact that I haven’t visited (money and time issues), possibly substandard essay. [li]General Comments/Advice/Hindsight: Emailed my counselor to get those rec letters in in time for the RD, hoping it turns out better. I submitted for the DHS and Paul Tulane awards (I actually spent a fair amount of time making a “green wave” quilt for the DHS… oh well). Not going to dwell on it too much[/li][/ul]

Has anyone else not heard back? I applied EA on September 19 and my portal still says my application is complete and awaiting review. Anyone else having this issue? I called admissions as well as emailed but no response yet.

Accepted Early Action
Asian female, public school in Colorado
I applied to Tulane as a definite safety school, but I really did love the school after researching in depth, especially the community feel and the fun traditions they have like the Mardi Gras tree- which I believe I mentioned in my essay. I did not submit teacher recommendations or talk to their admissions counselors. I did write the “Why Tulane” essay and got very specific about academics, clubs, etc., but I only spent a couple hours on it. Never visited the school. I also submitted my app very early- sometime in September. I applied as a biology major. In my personal statement essay I wrote about my dedication to become a pediatric oncologist and how I’ve written about it in the Huffington Post and how Taylor Swift tweeted a link to it and called me a “true inspiration,” which was really cool because her song “Ronan” is what really got me into childhood cancer. I also wrote about my cancer research internship, which had an acceptance rate of less than 5%, and how I was a high school student working with people from Dartmouth and Columbia while attending research seminars by PhDs and conducting my own research project.
I would share merit aid info, but I’m still waiting for the mail itself- I just know the decision through the website.
I’m applying to nearly 25ish schools, including Yale, Johns Hopkins, Duke, UChicago, Washington University in St. Louis, and the like. I manage to get any of Tulane’s full tuition scholarships, I’ll seriously consider attending, but for now I’m holding out for the other schools. Since I’m a QuestBridge finalist (opted out of ranking), I’m hoping to get some nice merit and need based aid from their partner schools if I get in.

Objective:

Thanks, Fallenchemist. The only thing we don’t know is if his scholarship was decided prior to his higher (by one point) October ACT arriving. He was one of the last to get his October score (they had his September score) and it almost seemed like his decision came immediately after, so it’s likely they decided his scholarship based on the lower ACT. Still, just a difference of one point, from 31 to 32 (but two sub scores flip flopped, so the two together are helpful). Tulane is not his first choice, but the scholarship makes it a viable contender should he not gain acceptance to either of the two schools he favors slightly more.

Just noticed a typo in my earlier post (#875): I meant if I manage to get a full tuition scholarship. I know those are really competitive, but fingers crossed! Tulane is a really great school, and I love their traditions and the feel of the student life!

Add this to your statistics:

Accepted with 20k/yr merit scholarship
32 ACT
3.68 UW GPA

I wish I received a larger scholarship, but don’t we all! Won’t be able to go unless I win the PTA…
Congrats to all those accepted!

DD accepted, 27k/yr, 3.9 UWGPA, 34 ACT, was hoping for larger scholarship and possibly honors. Seems as though those getting later acceptances received lower scholarship offers. Hoping for DHS or PTA…

So uh I got accepted two weeks ago and still have not received a formal letter in the mail…
