I have a question I am not sure many folks can answer but I am hoping someone will. My daughter was waitlisted this past audition season at Baldwin Wallace. The program is/was one of her top choices and she was really disappointed that she did not get off the waitlist. She is taking a Gap Year this year, preparing full time and re-auditioning in the fall/winter for school. My question is whether it would help at all to write to Baldwin Wallace and explain that they are her top choice, that she had been waitlisted and ask if there is anything she can do leading up to and preparing for the 2020 class auditions to better her admission chances. In other words, does the fact that she made it onto the waitlist for the class of 2019 help at all with her next round of auditions? In my fantasy world, she would write her letter, they would love her enthusiasm, she would re-audition with their knowledge that she had been on the wait list and that may help her to stand out a bit more. Any insight would be so appreciated.
I think Baldwin Wallace would very much appreciate hearing from your D.
However, your D should bear in mind that in making their admissions decision this year, they will be comparing her to this year’s crop of auditioners and will make their decision based on her audition this year, not what she did last year. Where the communication could help is if she is once again on the border line of admittance, knowing it is her first choice could be a deciding point in her favor. But I would caution her and you that she needs to go into this year’s auditions with an open mind about school choices and find some schools she would be happy with other than Baldwin Wallace. I do hope she gets in BW if that is her dream and that it all works out for her. But there are lots of great programs out there. So cast a wide net and keep an open mind. I just don’t want her to be disappointed in this audition season if for some reason BW is not the school at which she is meant to be. This process is just so cray it is never good to be fixated on one program.
But I do think BW will appreciate hearing from her and it may be a point in her favor during the decision making process.
For what it’s worth, I auditioned for BW twice (once Spring 2013, once Spring 2014). I was never waitlisted (or accepted…haha), but Vicky Bussert and Scott Plate both remembered me the second time they saw me.
Thanks to you both! Its awesome CandadianMTgirl, that they remembered you. That does help a lot, hopefully the same will happen when she re-auditions! Take care.
