Are there normally a lot of people who are deferred?

Rejected

For others who made it, congratulations!
For the less lucky ones of us, best of luck to you!!!

Accepted! :open_mouth:

I was really excited about being accepted…but then I learned about the CSS. Is it bad that I haven’t submitted it? anyone else just learn about it. I’m gonna need A LOT of aid if I plan to go there.

Anyway,
Regardless of the desicion, I’m sure you’re all amazing students! These things seem so random sometimes.

@lhtlinda hey I’m an international too I got rejected also!

ACCEPTED

Accepted!!!

Did any of the accepted people receive their financial aid package as well?

@Monikaaa same! i never did any of the financial aid stuff…i thought i just had to do fafsa and that any extra school forms would be due at the same time…why would i submit a form to a school i never thought i’d get into before actually being accepted?

Hi folks,
International here also. Deferred. I very much anticipated a rejection or deferral, given the hyper-competitive circumstances and the unpredictable nature of the “holistic review”. Does someone know about the stats of EA this year? Thanks!

@bunzo197 Caltech is the least “holistic” of all competitive schools. If you notice, people admitted to Caltech are remarkably outstanding.

Congrats on your referral, you’re still in the running!

Good Luck

Accepted!

@kittymom1102 I don’t think that the more holistic a school’s admissions process is, the less outstanding the kids are. That seems a bit backwards to me. My impression of holistic admissions is that they look beyond stats, but they still do pay a lot of attention to awards and “outstandingness.”

@smartypants57 I like your opinion :slight_smile:

Deferred and unsurprised. As an American living abroad, would they have considered me an international applicant?

omg accepted and too surprised omg

@kittymom1102 Thank you for your kind advice. I guess my usage of “holistic review” might be a bit different. If you take two notable schools, for instance Princeton and Stanford, that uses HR to admit students, I guess it is quite possible that results a same student differ from each other. To me, HR doesn’t necessarily mean a very much comprehensive scheme, but rather a mode of analysis hard to characterize and highly individualized per institution. For instance, some might be more random than peer institutions. Probabilistically some trends might be noticeable. In this sense, Obviously Caltech favors dedicated STEM inquirers, so I am not sure how they consider students who also pursue the humanities/social sciences (i.e. history and international relations) while having stellar research and problem-solving recognition on the national level and beyond…

@Congrats on your deferral! If Caltech wants you to stick around, it bodes well for other schools

Do admitted students still need to send midyear grades?
